Hello,

I'm looking for a plugin that would be a tape/vinyl emulator, but could slow down (linked with the pitch), like on a tape/vinyl board, and in a smooth way. As there's dozens of tape emulator vsts, i'm wondering if there's one thats explore these things. For instance, i would like to be able to pitch down my track in a tape stop way, but it wouldn't stop, and keep on at a lower pitch.
I've used waveshell's soundshifter but i would like something that's more tape/vinyl oriented.
It would be a tape emulator but which doesnt just change the color of the sound but the whole thing.
If anything sounds similar to this, i would really like to hear about it.
Thank you very much !

Do you want to pitch it down without slowing down?

some sort of tape delay with a built in looper/freeze?

interested now, as ive never thought about this in software :o
although i can do it easily in hardware with a make noise morphagene.

I'm unaware of such a plugin, but I can suggest a workaround.

Use regular tape stop effect on the channel as an insert, arm it to an empty track and record audio to the said track. Loop the audio to create an infinite tape stop effect.

Hope it helps.

EDIT: Sorry, just read it again and I might have misunderstood. I use Bitwig Studio, and it has a time stretch algorithm called Repitch, which pitches the audio in style of tape. Now I'm not sure what exactly is it that you're looking for, that's my bad, but it seems like this is it.

Load the audio file into a sampler VSTi and play with pitch-bend. Should give you the result you're looking for.

It would probably be better to do this type of effect as a quasi-destructive edit on the track with Elastique or Variaudio.

A real-time effect is going to have limitations that an offline edit won’t have, because a finite amount of memory has to be pre-allocated for the effect’s audio buffer.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

IL GrossBeat. I can't remember which bank. Either Pitch Shifter or Turntablist. You have to get the VST version because stock doesn't have midi trigger.

Can you not take the principles of shepard tones and apply it to tape stop so it sounds like a never ending stop ?

Post

Grossbeat or timeshaper will do this.

this has pitch control:

For Reaper users, there is the ability to automate the tempo/playrate of the master track, which gives precisely this effect.

Wow thank you very much to you all for your great answers, it's very interesting. And Thanks for trying to understand my messy and undecided post. I'm looking all of this up
