So recently I found a planet phatt unit in excellent condition locally, and I know that it's an old and cheesy sample based unit, but I kinda like it. And shortly after I found ESI 4000 and ESI 32 units with exactly same price as planet phatt.
After some research I found that I can load roms from planet phatt and other E-mu units into the ESI 4000/32, which raises the main question:
Is there any difference sonically between running samples natively on planet phatt, or is it the same on the ESI sampler (+ I get the possibility to load other sound banks and yeah, sample
Which sampler is more useful and has more capabilities in terms of modern workflow ESI 4000 or ESI 32? Which has more "character" if any?
And another thing that confuses me: after reading the manuals for these units, I don't understand if I can control it with midi cc commands? In manuals there's some sysex commands that I'm not familiar with how to operate.
P.S. Sorry if the questions are dumb, I've never encountered such units before.
