I'm a graphic artist, I've been using Macs for half of the last 25 years. One job I had, our sales people had MacBooks and one of them had serious overheating problems that eventually resulted in the battery warping and expanding, bursting out of the chassis. One of my neighbours had overheating issues with her 17" MB Pro. Those are both things I have seen with my own eyes. OTOH, I've only ever heard about people having overheating issues with their PC laptops, I've never actually seen one with problems.

I think BONES hasn't been made aware of apple silicon. I think his comment is relevant back in 2019...

Post

Yeah, there might be a slight difference between Apple's Intel laptops and the Apple Silicon laptops...

You're a graphic artist who doesn't understand the difference between high and low PPI. That's supposed to be your job, but here you're not knowing it... I could go and dig some old posts of yours but I don't want to

It seems XMG are saying its a hardware issue and not related to Windows 11, doesn't sound good...

https://www.xmg.gg/en/audio-laptops/
The introduction of Modern Standby and related changes to power management architecture on laptops are making it impossible for us – and as a matter of fact, for every other manufacturer – to release a laptop and genuinely call it “audio-optimized” at this point. This is in no way related to Windows 11 itself, which the new machines will be running – it’s due to changes on hardware level that need to be adapted to step by step.

Currently, it is not foreseeable when we will be able to offer Modern Standby laptops optimised for the professional audio sector. Thank you for your interest and we will keep you updated!
I will need to replace my Scan laptop in the next 12 months, right now I can get a 17" Elimina from PC Specialist with an i7 13700H, 32GB Ram and 2 x 4TB Corsair M2 SSDs for under £1500. I think I'll contact Scan and see what they say. At worst I'll order this, see how it runs under W11/W10 and return if there's any issues.

I can not access https://www.xmg.gg/en/audio-laptops/
And I also did not tweaked any modern laptop.
Laptops are tweaked to economize battery and not realtime audio workloads.
But the tweaks are usually at the operational system and we can change.

I bought my 3XS 17" Win 8.1 Laptop from SCAN almost 10 years ago (i7 24gig RAM 3x 1TB SSDs). Other than needing a screen replacement a couple of years ago 'coz of some dodgy pixels, I've had no issues with it. It's as fast and reliable as ever.

Thanks for posting Rob, that's really interesting (and concerning) news from XMG. Would you mind reporting back with your findings/efforts at a later date? I emailed Scan again recently and they told me they had no ETA as to when they would have audio laptops back in again.

I've done a similar quote with PC Specialist for an i9 13900HX and have emailed their sales team to ask if they can recommend any audio tweaks and if they would anticipate any issues. I had the same plan to purchase and return if the machine doesn't work for audio.

Interestingly, ADK Pro Audio in the US are selling Windows 11 audio laptops so I got in touch and they're reporting no issues, having put together dozens of current-generation systems for their customers. Shipping costs from the US are prohibitively expensive though, so a big risk if something were to go awry.

Post

Sounds like PC Specialist makes much more financial sense to try out than ADK Pro Audio, since you save more money either way whether you keep or return it. If you do end up returning it, you already have another option lined up.

I quoted the message they have on their website in my previous post.

Scan have got back to me and said the problems are due to a latency issue on the CPU. They haven’t specified which CPUs and were only aware of it being an issue on W11 but couldn’t offer any models with W10 (kind of contradictory to the XMG message regarding W11). They also said they couldn’t suggest any alternatives having tested many laptops.

I wouldn’t bother ordering from ADK, I’m pretty sure you could spec the same machine from PC Specialist minus any audio specific OS tweaks. Plus if they haven’t been very thorough with their testing and you have to return that’s a big expense.

I’m still debating on waiting it out or biting the bullet with PC Specialist  Let me know what the sales team say regarding the audio tweaks/issues.
