Can you Import and RE-export a different True Peak WAV File?

hi guys, a question i just noticed.

i exported several songs at a true peak with -0.1 TP but i wanted (after learning it is better or safer) to export all songs at -1 TP. so i started to open all projects and set the true peak to -1 TP but cant i just import the original exports with -0.1 TP and set the Limiter to (transparent mode) and -0.9 TP and get a total of -1 TP?
or does it already alter the sound and i should really export the original files again?

to make it shorter , i just wanted to save maybe the proces and time to export all projects with the limiter set to -1 TP instead of -0.1 so i thought maybe i can do it in a different way WITHOUT altering or changing the sound.

or does this method is the same?

The TP ceiling you refer to is relative to the 0 db full scale threshold. So if you reimport your -0.1 db TP and set the limiter to -0.9 db TP, your files will be at -0.9 db TP (relative to full scale).
So in short, no you can't "cumulate" (-0.1) + (-0.9) db TP to achive -1 db TP. You have to set your limiter ceiling to -1 db TP.

If you import a wav with peaks at -0.1 and set the limiter to -1.0, the audio will have it's peaks reduced to -1.0 because the limiter will, um, limit it (i.e. you will get gain reduction when the peaks exceed the ceiling) : )

This may depend on your limiter. Some limiters (such as TDR limiter 6) have two stage (2 limiters): a "normal" limiter, and a final stage of peak limiting that can be the TP limiter.

In Limiter 6, you can activate one or the other, or both at the same time. You can turn off the regular peak limiter, and set the TP only output limiter at -1 db TP, but in that case this limiter will work harder if your audio go a lot above -1 dB, and this is not recommended.

So, this also depends on your audio. If you set TP to -0.1 dB the first time you exported, it doesn't mean that -0.1 dB was actually hit. If your audio is not very loud, maybe your peaks are below -0.1 or even below -1 dB. In that case, even if your set the limiter to -1 dB TP, it may not do anything as long as your your peaks are below that threshold.

i see! thanks a lot! i think to be sure to have not altered settings/output i shall re-export the projects as WAV with the TP set to -1 dB. ahhh i thought i could save time .
