Apple introduces M2 Ultra
With a faster CPU and GPU, plus support for even more unified memory, M2 Ultra takes Mac performance further than ever.
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced M2 Ultra, a new system on a chip (SoC) that delivers huge performance increases to the Mac and completes the M2 family.
M2 Ultra is the largest and most capable chip Apple has ever created, and it makes the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro the most powerful Mac desktops ever made.
M2 Ultra is built using a second-generation 5-nanometer process and uses Apple’s groundbreaking UltraFusion technology to connect the die of two M2 Max chips, doubling the performance.
M2 Ultra consists of 134 billion transistors — 20 billion more than M1 Ultra. Its unified memory architecture supports up to a breakthrough 192GB of memory capacity, which is 50 percent more than M1 Ultra, and features 800GB/s of memory bandwidth — twice that of M2 Max.
M2 Ultra features a more powerful CPU that’s 20 percent faster than M1 Ultra, a larger GPU that’s up to 30 percent faster, and a Neural Engine that’s up to 40 percent faster.1
It also features a media engine with twice the capabilities of M2 Max for blazing ProRes acceleration. With all these advancements, M2 Ultra takes Mac performance to a whole new level yet again
.
“M2 Ultra delivers astonishing performance and capabilities for our pro users’ most demanding workflows, while maintaining Apple silicon’s industry-leading power efficiency,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies.
“With huge performance gains in the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine, combined with massive memory bandwidth in a single SoC, M2 Ultra is the world’s most powerful chip ever created for a personal computer.”

They spent more time talking about their PDF reader, in the WWDC keynote, which tells you everything. Look! Our $3,500 headset! What d'you mean the eyes look creepy?
A Mac Pro with the same spec as a Studio Ultra? Charging an extra $3,000 for a 6 slot PCI-E Gen 4 breakout board? $7k for a system lucky to keep up with a 13900k? And that's in the USA - which didn't see price increases. Other countries did. Like the prior Mac Pro it's a deal so bad only those, who can use the cost as a tax write off, are likely to take them up. I suppose it's one way to define "pro"..
Some reports say they wanted to do more (Extreme chips, user upgradeable ram etc), and the question is whether the failure to implement this now sets the future direction for Apple Silicon, or if M3 will see more. Not that it really matters if they're already at $7k with this. It'd be a 5 figure solution..
At least it's never been better for those at the other end. Some retailers are still trying to offload base M1 Mac Mini's for $299. If your needs are light it's a good deal..

Source please! For that price I will definitely buy another one.
EDIT: Can't find a single place that sells the Mac Mini M1 base model for less than 700 euros here in Finland. I'm willing to order one from abroad if it really can be found for that low. Used prices are around 450 euros for the base model. I paid 650 euros new, when it was released. At least here it has hold it's value _extremely_ well, even on the used market. For good reason, it's by far the smallest, quietest "fast" computer you can get for so little money, even to this day.

Does that come with the strap or do you have to buy that separately? Just asking for a friend..

Costco USA - $299.97. Still available as of posting, but you'd require a US shipping address to send it on (+ shipping and Import taxes etc).
The best you can do in the UK is about €670 for the base M2. All of Apple's best clearance deals are usually reserved for the bigger US 3rd party retailers. For Europe it's more like they're testing how far they can push it before people finally understand they're being treated as mugs and stop buying.EDIT: Can't find a single place that sells the Mac Mini M1 base model for less than 700 euros here in Finland.
They can be found quite regularly in places like Costco or Best Buy etc. The issue is how you get them to you as they usually won't ship internationally, the cost of the international shipping (which tends not to be cheap lately) and where you're left after import taxes have been added.I'm willing to order one from abroad if it really can be found for that low.

That is a very steep Apple tax that our American friends to the south don’t have to pay. My pal was holding out for this to get a bit more cpu power and now can’t afford it, he had the Uktra m1 studio funded. That’s a big increase. There should still be some m1 ultra inventory out there but not on Apple Canadas website.
