Yeah, agreed. People keep saying Valhalla Delay has more options, and I think they never really used Eternity.
I would say the big difference is that Eternity has a single character, while Replika and Valhalla Delay have several modes which result in very different characters, as in Difussion vs Tape vs Digital. Replika also has more fx to use.

yeah, the modulation options on eternity are nice but it is always the same flavor all the time.
It’s just a different mindset. Eternity may have a single character, but its focus is in the modulation system. I’m not saying Eternity is “better,” I’m just saying that it’s pretty versatile, and in some ways more than Replika XT or Delay. You definitely need all three, if you want to be considered a serious person.

This thread made me fire up Eternity last night for the first time in a while. It's good/fine but I'd still be unlikely to reach for it as a first (ValhallaDelay), second (Echoboy/Echoboy Jr.), or even third choice (Timeless if I'm looking for LFOs and Env's) general purpose delay. Then there's still ReplikaXT and the dozens of hardware emulation delays in my collection (PSP 42, OuterSpace, PrimalTap, Echo Cat, UAD Korg SDD-3000, etc.).

I'm perhaps not the typical consumer in that I'm a bit of a plugin collector, but it's just hard to be impressed by Eternity when looking at it in comparison to other products in the market. It's pretty versatile, but not as versatile as Timeless. It's got character, but not as many options as ValhallaDelay or EchoBoy. It's frankly, just kind of a middle of the road delay for me and will likely got back to being forgotten.

It’s interesting to me to see people rate plugins like they are adding features to a spreadsheet. One of my favorite recent synthesizer plugins is Opal. It’s not necessarily as feature rich as many of its competitors, including some that are free, but it has two fairly novel features that make it really useful for me. Filter pole morphing and a very good per note distortion effect section. If I had judged it based on a list of capabilities, I’d have missed out on a gem. Maybe Eternity fails on the amount of features it offers, but it has an interesting set of features that lead to results that Delay and Replika couldn’t do.

are you telling me you don't make a spreadsheet to compare features and decide if you want a new plugin?

I actually do it when I want to uninstall something, I don't like to have a huge plugin folder so I am quite analytic when selecting the stuff, i have to be sure it offers something extra and covers quite bit of ground.

But the thing I value the most is that when first testing it I find the sound inspiring and the UI easy to understand.

In my case, it just didn't wow me. I use way less feature-packed delays way more often, and I have delays with more features that I'd also reach to before this. What does Eternity do really well that I can't get from something else faster? Nothing really. What features does Eternity offer that I can't get from something else? Nothing really. It's ok if you really like it and disagree.

99 € for the Arturia effect collection is very tempting. But, why do I think about that when I don't even need it?

Damn money pit. :(

It's a sickness. It's not your fault. Your brain gets happy and floods with dopamine when you buy plugins. But don't you want your brain to be happy? Even if only for a little? Isn't that worth $99? ColdFIRE, Fragments, Tube Culture, LX-24, the modulation and compressors...these things make for happy brains.

Ok ok, persuaded.

*takes off to Arturia's site* ;)

Well, there are a few plugins in there which would interest me for sure. Fragments, the delays, the distortion units, the phaser. But, I rather save the money for now. Abundance isn't nice either. Hardly find the time to use what I already have... and, I have quite a few Arturia plugins already as well.
