Greetings,
first of all, thanks to everyone for the feedback.
second of all, an update:
Couple of weeks ago I purchased the Pro15 OLED: the performance was awesome, great specs.
but real-time audio experience was a nightmare, next to unusable with my Focusrite audio interface (2nd generation).
Terrible DPC latency into the 20000us (!) at some points. Audio randomly *shutting down* for 5 to 10 seconds, etc.
After checking in with Focusrite support and exchaning several emails and doing extensive testing, we concluded that the problem lies mostly with Windows 11 - some configuration/ system files you can't get rid of totally destroy audio drivers for several interfaces, including my own.
RESULT: I had to return the machine and get a macbook (luckily I found an M1, which was cheaper than the current M2 they're pushing)
CONCLUSION: if you want to work with real time audio on windows, do so with a Windows 10 machine or a purpose-built, properly tested laptop / computer (which i have been unable to get so far - XMG laptops had a purpose-built model that I have personally tested and which works great - sadly, they stopped making it, precisely because of Windows 11 issues).

What I mentioned in viewtopic.php?p=8670610#p8670610 did not help?sk3000 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 6:09 am CONCLUSION: if you want to work with real time audio on windows, do so with a Windows 10 machine or a purpose-built, properly tested laptop / computer (which i have been unable to get so far - XMG laptops had a purpose-built model that I have personally tested and which works great - sadly, they stopped making it, precisely because of Windows 11 issues).
Some people also had success by uninstalling the ASUS Armoury Crate
and doing the tweaks I mentioned in the previous post.

This is bringing back nightmares of using two custom built Windows 7 PCs and the near impossibility (at least at that time) of lowering my RME audio interface buffer size below 512 samples. Although I would never claim to be a Windows IT Admin, I am very comfortable using all the tools available within the OS to improve performance including editing the Registry and entering command line prompts.T-CM11 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 9:29 am Windows laptop models appear and disappear quickly. So don't expect too much from your topic.
Generally, your 2 best options are:
- Buy it and if you have issues with DPC latency, try to tweak it yourself.
- If you're not a "tweaker" and want your new laptop to be a "sure thing", buy one from an online shop that specialises in audio production computers, like for example Scan UK. You won't get the fastest hardware for the least amount of money, but that shouldn't be a surprise.
Nothing I did made any difference. I basically replaced almost every component in the PCs including the motherboards, graphics cards, and PCIe audio cards. That was just a waste of time and money.
I finally bought a quad core 2.8GHz i7 15" MacBook Pro and a MOTU 16A Thunderbolt 2 audio interface. That was 8 years ago and I have had zero problems since then. And now that almost all plugins are Apple Silicon native, I'm about to purchase a 14" M2 Max MacBook Pro. I look forward to getting nearly 10 years of exceptional use out of this new laptop.

No need to replace anything. If you buy a Laptop Just take care of a stronger single core performance ( if possible ) and lock the cores to a performance of your wish. Jesus... Oh, and Win 11 works very well!

The main issue with current windows for audio is the excessive parking of cores. I recently bought a Dell laptop for audio use only and would get huge dropouts every 30 seconds or so. I did all of the power tweaks I could find online even registry entry hacks to turn off core parking. However, the dropouts kept happening. I checked the performance monitor and Windows was still parking the cores even though I did the registry hack. This led me to the great revelation.......
The difference between Power Modes and Power Plans that I believe began in Windows 10. My Dell laptop only had one power plan option - Balanced. So, I was tweaking settings for this Balanced plan. However, there is a hidden setting for power plans that describes them as Balanced, High Performance, etc. So, if your Power Plan (no matter what it is named) is set to Balanced, Windows 10/11 will use the Power Mode settings and not the Power Plan settings that you are able to adjust. After getting a Power Plan set up that was set as High Performance, it shut the Power Mode off. So, now if I go to Settings/System/Power & Battery under power mode it says that my power mode is turned off and not the "Optimize your device based on power use and performance" with the pull down options of recommended, better performance, or best performance that is there by default.
After getting the Power Mode shut off, my adjustments to shut off core parking (and other power settings) worked and my laptop purrs like a kitten now. Smooth audio with low latency.

The above issues are why a certain U.K. system builder does not have audio production laptops for sale, windows 11 has issues and trying to get minimalistic drivers that also don’t bork latency is difficult at best.
