Whatever happened to the MIDI Mutator?BluGenes wrote: Fri Jun 09, 2023 4:53 pm Ran your suggestion through ChatGPT and this is what I got back..
Sure! Here are 10 suggestions for funny names for your utility that uses the Markov function to manipulate MIDI data:
1. MIDI Mischief Maker
2. Markov's Melodic Mayhem
3. ChuckleChord MIDI Mixer
4. The Jester's Note Generator
5. Harmonic Hijinks MIDI Magic
6. Rhythmic Roast MIDI Manipulator
7. The MIDI Madness Machine
8. Melody Meme Master
9. Quirky Note Nudger
10. Laughing Keys MIDI Madness
Feel free to mix and match or modify these suggestions to suit your preferences!

Hi Mike,Mykyndryd_ wrote: Fri Jun 09, 2023 3:36 pm Hi All. Late to the party on this one but maybe drop "Markov" from the generator name altogether as it was an experimental feature based on Markov predictability and Attila has made it much much more than that and given us a quite unique function.
How about "The Midi Transformer" or "The Midi Reimaginator" or "The Midi Evolver" or "MidiStein" ("FrankenMidi") or something?
What does everyone think?
Cheers. Mike.
excellent suggestion, let's drop "Markov" from the name! "MIDI Transformer" sounds good to me as it takes an input MIDI file and creates output MIDI notes. Or perhaps "MIDI Generator"? I am not good at giving names...
Naming it to "MIDI Mutator" would create confusion, as there is already a tab (and a plug-in) with that name. The "Markov generator" is part of MIDI Mutator too.
BTW ghost tracks work well, expect a beta version later today.
Thanks!
Attila

I'm uncertain about the current availability of this feature in RC,
Scalar offers a remarkable feature that allows you to extract voicings and apply them to different chord progressions, Perfect for breathing new life into chords. I'm wondering if it could potentially be incorporated as a variation. I desire the capability to select my preferred voicing from one source and transfer it to another. I attempted to utilize the option of applying shape variation , but unfortunately, it did not produce the desired outcome.

When this comes out, I think some description comparing/contrasting ghost phrases and ghost tracks would be helpful.musicdevelopments wrote: Sat Jun 10, 2023 7:35 am BTW ghost tracks work well, expect a beta version later today.

FWIW, there is a whole list of Generators with names descriptive of their output. They -all- create MIDI. Thus, "MIDI Generator" is a non-descriptive name in this paradigm.
The term "Markov", while not as obviously output-descriptive as Ostinato, Chord, Percussion, Dyads Run, Piano Run etc., does at least indicate the algorithmic approach being used to create the output. That's something, not nothing. I recommend against replacing something with nothing. Doing so makes things less clear, not more clear.

I would ask the question, does a new name describe the output better than the existing name ("Markov")?
I've previously written about having the name say something about the input as well, when the input differs from the default.

Hi Steve, thanks for your input!
"MIDI Generator" produces "dumb" MIDI notes, without any relation to the master track chords and scales (because it forms its own chords). The user has the choice to replace the master track chords and convert this to chord relative form.
Is "MIDI Transformer" good for everyone?
Thanks!
Attila
No, all the other generators create chord or scale relative notes.sj1 wrote: Sat Jun 10, 2023 1:30 pm FWIW, there is a whole list of Generators with names descriptive of their output. They -all- create MIDI. Thus, "MIDI Generator" is a non-descriptive name in this paradigm.

I am confused. I think the name should indicate the purpose or usage instead of the algorithm being used. I admit, "Markov Generator" is a bad name, and thanks for bringing this to my attention. A musician is not interested in which algorithm is used. Because it creates MIDI notes from other MIDI notes, maybe "MIDI Transformer" is indeed a better name but I am open to suggestions. We should agree on the naming.sj1 wrote: Sat Jun 10, 2023 1:30 pm The term "Markov", ... does at least indicate the algorithmic approach being used to create the output.

I appreciate you making this distinction Attila, it's not one I had spent time considering.musicdevelopments wrote: Sat Jun 10, 2023 3:20 pmNo, all the other generators create chord or scale relative notes.sj1 wrote: Sat Jun 10, 2023 1:30 pm FWIW, there is a whole list of Generators with names descriptive of their output. When the result of my form of logic yields the name "Dumb MIDI Generator", I conclude it is time for me to exit the field.

I am sorry if I did not express myself clearly. 'Dumb' was not the right word, I should have used 'simple' or some other words I do not know yet.

No lack of clarity IMO, I understood that meaning immediately.
Maybe "Raw MIDI" or "Static MIDI" would convey the same idea without the pejorative implication of "dumb".

RapidComposer v4.8b1 is available!
Thanks for the feedback about the ghost tracks and naming things!
Improvements:
Thanks for the feedback about the ghost tracks and naming things!
Improvements:
- "Unghost track" inserted among track actions
- Fixed remaining issues with ghost tracks
- [Plug-ins] It is possible to set up loop in the RC plug-in, independently from the host! When you enable "Start playback from the current position instead of the host position" you can freely place the time pointer to the beginning of the loop
- "Markov Generator" renamed to "MIDI Transformer" but this may not be the final name
