Agreed. It feels a bit greedy to release a new synth and expect people to pay again when the previous one received a lot of criticism. Especially since this seems to be another virtual analogue synth. ToneBoosters are usually really good with supporting and updating their existing plugins.Vortifex wrote: Mon Jun 12, 2023 2:51 pm I would be more excited about this if the previous synth didn't have such poor UX on desktop. Shame because it sounded good, but for me the experience of using it is just not worth it. And I say that as a fan of Toneboosters other stuff. Hopefully this will be an improvement.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Have to admit... out of all the companies out there Toneboosters are not one I'd call greedy considering their pricing. Their current synth is a little awkard in use, but sounds very good for £40

Toneboosters both for quality and price is one of the best developers out there IMO. EQ-4, Reelbus, and Barricade are used in every one of my sessions. As others have mentioned, the GUI on Flowtones really hurt it. Great sounding synth, but just not fun to use. From what i see in the screenshot this new synth looks much better. Hopefully Flowtones down the line gets a make over.

It's not only the bad GUI (and thus bad workflow) the problem. The presets are just plain boring and uninspiring.
Flowtones has a nice core sound, but Toneboosters didn't seem to care about delivering a good package overall in an already very competitive market (and not improving it in later updates it seems, as they are releasing a brand new different synth), so why bother? I didn't.

Unfortunately, it's specifically a bass synth, so probably monophonic and not tailored to lead sound at all.
I like the sounds of Flowtones, but paging between oscillators killed it for me...

I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

Looks like this has been released for those interested in trying it.

It can be polyphonic.
Depends on what you like, I guess. There are some lead presets.
You can stretch the interface tall enough to show all the oscillators at once. However, the effects and some main controls are only accessible through a panel via the gear icon.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

To be honest I'm losing a bit of traction with ToneBoosters. He has some killer plugins like DualVCF that need some love, and he is not enhancing them - for example, I asked a while ago about the addition of Zero Delay Feedback filters and the LFO supporting random in sample-and-hold fashion. The first request was simply ignored, the second subject to their priority queue...
Same for Equalizer and linear phase mode.
The new plugin seems to sound very good but I have so many synths already and Flowtones didn't fascinate me that much...

I 100% agree with everything here.. The UI is much better than Flowtones. So much so i was hoping to get some of the Flowtones sound out of it (with more polyphony) as i like the UI much better.Vortifex wrote: Sat Jun 24, 2023 11:19 pm Initial thoughts on demo. It's basically a simpler 5-note polyphonic version of Flowtones with a few differences. Exactly the same rich sound quality. Lots of waveforms and the low end can be weighty as you'd expect. No osc reset, which to me a is a big omission on a bass synth, especially if you want to use unison.
UX is much better than Flowtones. If I stretch the UI down so I can see all three oscillators it's a breeze to use. A hide keyboard option would be great.
CPU isn't super light. Using max polyphony without unison I was getting about 20% in FL Studio.
Tbh I don't know why he didn't just add an extra 3 notes of polyphony so it can be used as a full polysynth. I would much rather use this than struggle with Flowtones' UX. As it is you get a great sounding 5-note poly with individual unison and panning per oscillator, 20 filters and extensive modulation for the ridiculous price of 24 euros. If it was 8-note polyphonic I would have bought it instantly.
TB is pretty good about adding quite a bit to new plugins based off user feedback. I do hope Flowtones gets a UI update to match Lowtone a bit. In its current state it's a drag to use. His earlier UI of DualVCF was also MUCH better, not sure why he changed it to its current one.
As of right now, EQ 4, Reelbus 4, and Barricade 4 stand at the top for me with TB and i use them regularly. The synths however won't replace things like Dune 3, Rapid and Thorn for me. Ill keep an eye out to see what they do in future updates.

I'm still quite confused as to why we needed another synth that's basically just a subset of the previous one, instead of an improved UI in the existing product. Then again I never bought Flowtones either because as mentioned above, there's little point when you already have most of the other well known synths. TB has always been a top-tier effects developer though.
