Then tried the same preset via the ROLI Studio Player plugin and it sounds correct
Roli: Equator 2 is here !

It's weird, a few presets do work, some just don't work on first load, then others are random (like the video) every time you load the preset.TR4 wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 4:37 am Just tried it with the "Acoustic Piano" preset and can confirm it sounding weird in Bitwig 4.4.10.

I would have assumed it to be an Equator 2 issue, but then again it could be something to do with bitwig, as it works in ableton...
I'm loading from an nvme as roli are unable to program a custom install location (or unwilling), so it's all on my boot drive, so there should be no loading speed issues. It's fast enough for VSL's pianos.
No idea...

Do you meanyou loaded it in the roli studio plugin in bitwig? Or standalone?TR4 wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 4:37 am Just tried it with the "Acoustic Piano" preset and can confirm it sounding weird in Bitwig 4.4.10.

Is there a way to open Equator inside the Roli Studio Player inside a daw? I just installed it but there doesn't seem a way to edit equator.

No, Studio Player uses Equator internally but the functionality exposed to the user is only the player controls

I’m not saying it’s Bitwig, but I’ve had other experiences where developers said something similar to me and then in some random update, it was mysteriously fixed. While it does sound like a Bitwig issue, why is it fine on my machine? I’m not sure what version I’m on. I let my upgrade thing lapse because they’ve not introduced anything that I’m particularly interested in. Maybe try installing an older version of Bitwig until they sort it out. I’ll look at my version number later.MegaPixel wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 11:07 amAlready have...

I wonder if any beta tester of V5 could check.

I would test it against 5 Beta, but I don't have this problem on 4.4.10 at all. Im using Equator not that much, so I might have it also, but until now it never occured.MegaPixel wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 11:07 amAlready have...

According to your video, as far as I can judge, in the first half it sounds like a phasing issue as if the instrument would be played twice. I had a similar sound with a hardware synth, when I forgot to disable the local mode, so when I played note, on trigger went via DAW and one via local, so it was played twice. It sounded pretty similar to your video at the beginning. On the second half of your video, it sounded on the one side sometimes pretty distorted and on the other side sometimes as if there would be problems with audio buffers or other glitching. So maybe you can tell what are the border conditions.
1.)OS?
2.)Soundcard, driver, audio resolution and bit depth settings?
3.) It happens really just with Equator 2 and no other instruments?
4.) It happens with all note triggers? Not just mouse, but Keyboard, MIDI controller, MPE controller?
5.) You have same resolution settings for ASIO and WASAPI, MME, WDM if used on the same HW in parallel?
Maybe if you give me more information, I can try to reproduce it and counter-test it in ver 5.
6.) You go direct to soundcars or have other bridges like ASIO4all or Voicemeeter, etc.?
Side note: I had a few days ago also the case, that in a chain with Limiter at last position (Pro-L) there was a distorted sound, which was similar sounding as your distortion phenomen.

OK, I just had a look and I am also on 4.4.10 and when I select the Acoustic Piano sound, it was all distorted. I selected the next piano sound it it was fine, went back to Acoustic Piano and it was now also fine. I thought it might be the distortion effect, but no. Taking the distortion module out of it will still give me a distorted effect sometimes. So I went back to Acoustic Piano, the original one, and what do you know? It's got a new distortion effect in the first slot... later it's got an LFO mapped to a bunch of other things. It's like it's retaining things from other presets.
What's weird is that I just played with Equator 2 a little while ago and it was fine. I'll submit a bug report, because this is absolutely wrong. Thanks for the heads up.

yeah I don't remember this stuff happening before either. Haven't used it in a while though as I've not had my studio set up. But the random volume changes and stuff indicated in the video is definitely happening now. And it's not happening in Ableton Live. So who to report the bug to?zerocrossing wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 8:20 pm OK, I just had a look and I am also on 4.4.10 and when I select the Acoustic Piano sound, it was all distorted. Win10Pro all latest updates installed
Monitors:
- 43" 4K 120hz, running at 1440p 60hz @ 125% zoom
- 32" 1440p 120hz
Bitwig screen mode & zoom levels:
I switch between single and duel screen use often and sometimes go from 125% to 150% depending on how far away from the screens I am.
Hardware (no changes since rtx 3080 was released):
- 1000w PSU
- i9 9900k @ 4.7Ghz on all cores
- 64GB DDR4 running XMP2 profile
- RTX 3080 (asus tuf)
- NVME (boot), SSD x 5, HD x 1 (all internal), 1 SSD & HD external
- Scarlett 8i6 Gen 3
Hardware midi controllers / Note triggers
- Arturia Keylab Mk2 (NON MPE)
- Arturia Keystep 37 (NON MPE)
- Roli Seaboard Rise 2 (MPE)
- Mouse (lol)
No change on Equator 2 issues using any of them.
Drivers:
Scarlett latest for about 1 to 3 months ago after OS re-install, nvidia latest (I often alter these doing nvslim to remove latency or install the studio driver, issue happens on both), asio4all is installed but I never use it, I never use windows WASAPI in the DAW, OBS picks up the loopback from the scarlett 8i6
Audio resolution:
Always left at 44.1
Audio buffer:
Typically left at 256 but I will higher it depending on what I'm doing.
Security:
- Netlimiter (software firewall)
Configured specifically to lock down certain software and windows, tried disabling it, same result.
- BitDefender
Configured to not scan certain programs and locations eg speed up Kontakt, also tried adding exceptions to equator 2 and it's read/write locations which I found by recording it's disk activity), also tried disabling it, same result.
- Window defender
Disabled.
RE: Side note
The actual parameters in the preset change on each load, it could have a reverb, it could have crazy lfo's all over the place, it could have distortion on it, it's bonkers. It happens with all my midi controllers, not just via mouse trigger. I have no issues with anything else I've got installed (NI 13CE, U-HE, most major synths, a lot of plugin alliance, izotope, melda, soundtoys, eventide, valhallah, IK, uvi, arturia v9, Halion 7 etc etc etc. No issues).
Note:
I also have a lot of other software installed, for programming, database design, docker, xampp, adobe creative cloud, blender, afinity etc etc etc.
Note:
I had no problems with the seaboard rise 1 and equator 1 in Bitwig.

By the way I've also seen crazy results from bouncing Equator clips in bitwig where there is all kinds of weird digital noise.
