Sequencing Softube Heartbeat

I don't know why it doesn't come with a built in sequencer but what's the best way (other than in Modular) to sequence the drums in Heartbeat? Are there any midi plugins that work well with it for this job? (eg I was wondering about something like Playbeat?)

Ywah Hearbeat is very underrated, but I agree it's an odd admission to leave a sequencer out of it. You should easily be able to use any sequencer out there. I just use the free one in Reaper

Hi, i recommend Atlas with midi out to control the Heartbeat, it has very nice sequencer, light on the cpu and also you can use it with samplesaMUSEd wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 9:26 pm I don't know why it doesn't come with a built in sequencer but what's the best way (other than in Modular) to sequence the drums in Heartbeat? Thanks I think I like Playbeat best but not sure how best to set it up to drive Heartbeat? Does it need different channels for each drum instrument?

I can 't think of any alternatives I'm experienced with, but Sugarbytes Drumcomputer's sequencer is pretty good (you can set each lane's length, it has MIDI mapping, probability, drum rolls).
EDIT: one downside: Drumcomputer has only 8 pads (Heartbeat could use 9, plus an extra 4 for the auto layer machine)

Oh, and Hornet HATEfish RhyGenerator is fun and cheap (esp. during sales, which come very often; subscribe to their newsletter to get notified). Not at all a fully fledged step sequencer though.

The Step Sequencer in Logic Pro is top notch as well.

Heartbeat isn't GM MIDI by default, (ie Kick=C1, ClosedHat=F#1 etc). It's fairly easy to change the triggering MIDI note for each drum, but it saves with the preset. So if you want to flick through the presets with a GM setup, you'll need some kind of MIDI remapper, or need to change your triggering notes in something like Playbeat or whatever. It's such a pain in the ass in my opinion. If they just had an option for keeping the triggering notes fixed, but no, it's Softube, the ghastly green rock n roll scientists.
I sequence 99% of my drums with the piano roll in Cubase, but the fact that Softube left out a sequencer but ALSO made the MIDI trigger setup such a pain in the ass... pfft, pseudo scientists maybe

I have a drum sequencer - what I don't get is how to hook it up to have separate sequences going to each of the 8 instruments since it only seems to have one midi in.

MIDI Note bit, above each instrument, is this what you mean?

Just put the sequencer in the same instrument channel in your DAW, in front of Heartbeat, and trigger the right notes (as indicated in sqigls' screenshot).aMUSEd wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 10:58 pm I have a drum sequencer - what I don't get is how to hook it up to have separate sequences going to each of the 8 instruments since it only seems to have one midi in.
Each drum/cymbal/hat... can be triggered using 1 MIDI channel, or several. The MIDI channel simply doesn't matter.
