Unfortunately rehashing old classics (and some not-so-classic) is their thing and it obvs works for them, and I'm a sucker for them, so not complaining. But I'd like them to get a bit more adventurous with synths. If they can get an analogue poly out at this price (and it must have taken a fair bit of development, as with most of their synths) it'd be great if they did something like make a poly Wasp - take the filters in that, add more voices and a few more features. A Deepmind but with character filters - shouldn't be a huge step, surely? This Pro800 seems a bit flabby and vanilla to me every time I hear any demos of it, and everyone seems to gravitate to bog standard sawtooth waves. They have the development and chips for all their other synths so it wouldn't be a huge step to pimp some of their monos into polys. 101 filters, they could even make some kind of poly 303 thing. Polyfy some of their 2600 bits into a synth? I'd happily pay double the price of the Pro800 for a poly Wasp (even only 4voice), and that would give Korg MiniLogue a run for its money in terms of character filter poly for the affordable masses.
I was a little excited about the Pro800 just for the insane price, but TBH every time I hear it I get less excited.

Just keep making the Pro 800 but with the filters and oscillators from other synths. A Wasp that only has polyphony would be too simple but give it the controls of the Pro 800 and they'd really have something.kritikon wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 11:58 pm They have the development and chips for all their other synths so it wouldn't be a huge step to pimp some of their monos into polys. 101 filters, they could even make some kind of poly 303 thing. Minilogue, yes. Minilogue XD is in another league.that would give Korg MiniLogue a run for its money in terms of character filter poly for the affordable masses.

I realize I'm in the minority, but I really wish the Minilogue XD didn't have the digital oscillator. Sound designers rely way too much on it to create "interesting" patches. But then the XD sounds like a cheesy synth plugin (especially after adding the super slick FX). Also, I think the 4-pole filter in the original Minilogue sounds better than the 2-pole filter in the XD.

What were expecting from the Deepmind? Its a one oscillator synth (two sort of) built to a very low price point. I have a Deepmind 12 and at first was disappointed. But I got Jorb's presets that emulate a Juno and it opened up what it can do - which is to make a large variety of sounds that sit together in a mix. It was never going to be a "blow you off your feet" type of sound. Its workmanlike. For what its worth, I have an original Juno 6, and an Alpha Juno 2, which I am not currently using. They are stored away in a spare room, because this synth more or less has them covered, and takes up so little space. I am currently deciding whether to add the Pro 800 so as to expand its sonic capabilities.zerocrossing wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 2:40 am
This is why I have no Behringer synths. Too close to the originals, except for the Deepmind, and I wasn’t thrilled with the sound of that one.

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t say that I thought it was bad. Just not “thrilled” by it. It’s a great value for the money, but I don’t have money as an issue, at least not in that price range. The things that bugged me about it were the quick to distort filter resonance that seemed to go from not quite enough to screaming, and the PWM, which always sounded kind of weird and flat. I had a Juno 106 and I don’t remember the filter or PWM ever sounding like that.dellboy wrote: Sun Jun 18, 2023 1:49 pmWhat were expecting from the Deepmind? Anyway, a REV2 desktop made a lot more sense for me. Smaller footprint, 5 more voices, two full oscillators per voice, two more LFOs, a character that I liked more, etc. Definitely more money, but money can be made a lot more easily than more space. If I want a more Juno style tone, software is fine for me.
It’s a bit of a game of Tetris. Each bit of gear has a “shape” and that shape has to fit, and a good buy isn’t always enough to make it fit. There was a point where I went a bit crazy and I ended up with a studio that was too crowded, cluttered and awkward to work in.

Oof, feeling this big time. One thing I value now that I never in my life thought I'd care about is how lightweight and easy to move the JD-XA is. Plus, it's all plastic so I don't have to worry about damaging furniture when I move it around.zerocrossing wrote: Sun Jun 18, 2023 6:25 pm It’s a bit of a game of Tetris. It won't arrive in my country until the end of the year so i will have plenty of time to see how well it works and how people like it before i decide
A 8 Voice Proton would be a instant buy from me even if i had to get it from Thomann with all the greedy EU taxes on top since it seems like the Proton fixes all the Weird things that the Neutron has that made me sell it.

From what Ive read on their social media once the announced synths are out in the real world this will be the end of their cloning. So in all likelihood it will be new designs going forward??kritikon wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 11:58 pm Unfortunately rehashing old classics (and some not-so-classic) is their thing and it obvs works for them, and I'm a sucker for them, so not complaining. Its out in Europe, or at least the first run is…hits the US in August. But it’ll definitely be around in 2025 if you want to wait

I don't often visit FB for anything so I'm behind with their current goings on. Just checked - interesting. Seems they have quite a lot of announced stuff to release yet but will indeed be interesting to see what they come up with after that.kcearl wrote: Wed Jun 21, 2023 2:51 pm From what Ive read on their social media once the announced synths are out in the real world this will be the end of their cloning. In the meantime it seems Proton is not far off (

...and they sound serious about that Buchla thing. Looks a bit esoteric/unintuitive at first glance, but it might be good. If it's too deep into modular, then I'll pass, but you never know...
