This turned out to be notoriously bad in terms of plugin support after the launch. Bordering on impossible to talk to them if you run into problems, which for me was only solved by hassling Plugin Boutique to step in on my behalf. They claimed to struggle too... it took mentioning to them that there was evidence everywhere that Lunatic Audio's responses where non-existent and that they (Plugin Boutique) shouldn't continue to sell products like that in those cases.

And it doesn't stand up compared to plugins such as Infiltrator. In fact, NARCOTIC is closer to something like Unison Audio's Sound Doctor, compared to Infiltrator.

This is what bugs me about no demo stuff. Now, Omnisphere, I get. It's massive. But when a dev says no demo it either means they didn't know how to make it demo, or it's so buggy they're going to pull a cash grab before word gets around. That's just my opinion.

They do have / have had a demo version. On the website, right at the bottom under the buy button, there's a link that says "OR Try Narcotic Microdose", which is their demo version, although there's nothing explaining that, i.e. what Microdose is.

I seem to remember a time when it wasn't available through their website, or not working, or something. So someone would need to check if that current link works.

Yeah but you get a cutdown version that's not really a demo is it? It's a CM plugin with grayed out areas you can't manipulate unless you buy the full version.

I definitely don’t recommend Narcotic. I’ve had it since launch and every time I’ve fired it up I’m left disappointed.

Pretty much all the fx are fairly crap sounding, it’s never been that fun to tweak long enough TO get something decent and it feels like half of the fx are copies of other fx within Narcotic. Also the updates have been minimal (with no release notes that I can find) with nothing added to it or improved (that I can see or hear) in the time it’s been out. It’s been slightly useful just hitting the random button a bunch and mangling stuff quick, but again, the fx really don’t sound great.

I would say skip this one unless it goes for bargain bin price of like $20, but with VSTs like Infiltrator 2 and Shaperbox 3 why would anyone bother?

I'm going to see what Pace think about this, I think this could damage the security or integrity of my iLok as it completely circumvents their system

I've contacted Pace about this, frankly I am furious about this plugin inserting unauthorised stuff on my iLok that could potentially damage it or invalidate the warranty.

I'm pretty sure anyone who can get a half decent bit of audio software running can solve 'demo mode' if they want to. It's relatively easy compared to the other problems.

I suspect they don't do anything with iLok directly, I think they just read its unique identifier because that's what the copy protection ties itself to (which might be a standard feature to begin with, so no reverse engineering shenanigans), so it quite possibly does not otherwise communicate with iLok in any way and thus wouldn't be able to damage it.

I got it for $39 from AudioPluginDeals a few months ago. Hadn't given it a good tryout until I read this thread, so I've been putting a David Axelrod groove through the presets (of which there are many). Got some decent & varied results, altho' nothing I couldn't do with a lot of other multi-fx plugins ...
