ah well, the wait for spectraphon was annoying, so i caved and just ordered it.elxsound wrote: Thu Jun 15, 2023 5:05 pmThen, please ignore me! Unless it’s the deal of the year, I think more lower priced Echophons will become available soon.vurt wrote: Thu Jun 15, 2023 4:45 pm ill have to have a look at finances
should really be saving it, my son is 30 in september and will probably want some sort of gift

The Echophons are 20hp and mono. It seems MN is in full stereo-mode hot off the release of 34hp Spectraphon.
It doesn’t surprise me that some might be more willing to trade out Echophon for Mimeophon as a way of squeezing in Spectraphon.

I’ve been lost in Push 3 land, but I’ll be circling back to modular + Push by tomorrow.
I have lots to catch up on with both Spectraphon and Echophon!

Yeah, a bit, but it’s a deep dive in finding limitations and then workarounds. That can be fun sometimes, but I’ve got very cool modules to play with so hopefully tomorrow, I can start recording directly into Push! That’s when the fun will start.vurt wrote: Tue Jun 20, 2023 8:45 pm saw over in the studio thread, you and push. sounds like you are having fun![]()

A weird jam I did tonight:
bass > DAW > Mimeophon L in
Mimeophon L out > Spectraphon SAM
Spectraphon odd out > Mimeophon R in
Spectraphon even out & Mimeophon R out > mid/side > Velvet Machine
Jam Origin MIDI Bass > CV > Spectraphon pitch
Spectraphon env follower > Spectraphon FM (inverted... quieter = more FM)
LFO > Mimeophon u input
lots of Halo on Mimeophon
https://starthief.net/stuff/miezo_mimeo_spectra.mp3
It went on a lot longer but it got tedious and this gives the gist of it.
Overall I feel like pitch tracking is key to get Spectraphon working well with non-synth (and non-drum) instruments. The catch is, pitch tracking sucks. Jumping octaves, glitching out when it starts to go quiet or jumping to some weird default value. I've tried before to adjust the sensitivity, noise gate, use S&H/T&H to hold the pitch when the input level falls below a threshold, etc. and nothing I've done yet really solves it.
Sometimes the glitching is cool to be sure, but it would be nice to have it as an option instead of an inevitability...

Oh, that's not Spectraphon pitch tracking I'm talking about, it's Jam Origin MIDI Bass trying to convert the electric bass audio into a CV signal, to control Spectraphon. I haven't really had better luck with other methods either.
I just think musically, it's a lot more interesting for this particular usage if Spectraphon's pitch follows what I'm playing rather than converting to a monotone. I could use a regular sequencer I guess, and just have the bass as the audio input. Maybe an envelope follower and comparator to trigger advancing the sequencer. Hmmm...
