I'm quite close to pulling the trigger on 6FX bundle while on sale. Need binaural space positioning mainly, but not excluding the possibility to expand to Ambisonics, etc. later.
Is Space Controller Studio really a tool that can't be replaced with cheaper (or free) alternatives?
Sound Particles Density, Panners, Space Controller - your thoughts?

This is a subject I have little to no knowledge of but I do remember seeing these, perhaps you already know about them or in worst case they do not provide the functionality you are looking for, as I say, I don't really know what they are capable of but either way, just in case here are the links...

Brauer motion from waves is another very interesting tool in that vain, sometimes to be had for $29 or probably even lower. (just be aware: its Waves ! )
In my opinion do all this tools differ. At least the ones i have.

While we are at it, here is another great suite of open source spatial processing plugins. It is targeted at Ambisonics mainly, but there is a plugin in the suite called RoomEncoder, that allows you to position virtual speakers in a virtual, adjustable room (the plugin also allows for using external input as directional signal!):
