You could also try using multiple synths and putting a frequency shifter on the sounds. I hope that helps.

Some effects that create non-harmonic frequency relationships include:
Frequency shifting (not the same thing as pitch shifting)
Ring modulation
Aliasing
Intermodulation distortion
So a good freq/ring effect like Fault and a "bad" (non-oversampled) distortion plugin plugin would be useful things to play with.
