Does anyone have any experience with IK Multimedia Mixbox?

It's basically like Slate Digital's VMR, or a channel strip that you can build using different modules.

It's on sale for $29.99 at the moment, which is the lowest price I've ever seen it available for.

I don't use mine much but it is very useful if you dont have much other tools.
I have definitely recommended it to a few of the talents I work with and clients who need to work quickly and know very little about audio processing.

I use UAD Spark (subscription) for my mixing needs, along with some stock tools of course. I have the IK Multimedia reverbs (Sunset Studios, Farm Stone Room, Fame Studio), and a couple tape machines. I was planning on getting a couple Waves plugins maybe.

Almost all of the modules in MixBox are dumbed-down versions of T-RackS plugins and old models from AmpliTube.

But, it can be used as a standalone live processor, so it’s good as a replacement for Waves SoundGrid for live sound.

How do they sound though? I'm slowly trying to move away from subscriptions and am investing in plugins that I can own a perpetual license to. Would it be worth investing in Mixbox, so I could upgrade/crossgrade to T-RackS eventually? What's your opinion on T-RackS as a mixing/mastering suite, as compared to the likes of UAD/Waves/Softube?

At 30 bucks, this is an absolute steal. No brainer if ever there was one.

Thanks, it's a really tempting price. Although I should figure out if I'm gonna use it or not.

T-RackS is pretty good. Better than Waves but generally not quite as good as UAD.

IK can be hit or miss. The modeling tends to be pretty good but they don’t have the attention to detail that UAD does. For example, IK’s White 2A does a good job modeling the program dependent behaviour of the LA-2A’s T4 photocell, but they left out the R37 side-chain pre-emphasis control, making it an incomplete model of the LA-2A. UAD models the entire unit and all behaviours, of course.

Another example is IK’s Black 76. Once again, it’s a very competent model of the 1176. But it only has an “All Buttons” button, while the UAD 1176 actually models the behaviour of any combination of buttons, not just one or all at once.

Thank You, that's good to know. I'd rather invest in UAD at this point, even if it costs me slightly more. At least I know what I'm getting into. And I have no doubts about UAD quality, being a spark user myself, I have good experience with their plugins in general.

It's an extremely potent, versatile and good-sounding tool. There's not much missing from it. (Albeit the lack of tape-emulations other than Cassette is a strange ommision.) It should be possible to mix almost exclusively with it. It's all there and - due to its simplified nature - easy and quick to use. It's probably the best - and not the least because of its nigh completeness - of its kind there is.
