I just got a Sabrent 5 bay drive rack: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Y4F5SCK - like several reviews say, about the only downside immediately noticeable is the fan is a little loud.

I've a couple of "noiseless" fans that should fit. Has anyone any experience of replacing the original fan?

Also, I'm wondering if some of the noise is because there doesn't seem to be any shock absorbance on the drive mounts - just a spring mount front and back, nothing vertical. I've no idea if anything is possible to help there but any ... proven ... ideas would welcome.

How much ventilation does a drive need? Imho not much.
If another fan fits, then go ahead. You should check the voltage. If it needs 5V and you give it 12, then it might fry (or just spin too fast)

Stack of five drives with 240v power. I'm not convinced yet it's the fan making all the noise... I'd expect whirring rather than occasional, sporadic clunking... could be catching on its spindle if it's really poor, I guess.

Ah! Good point, I'll check that. Existing fan part no should help when / if I get around to it.
