well that got a bit wild! :)

some bits were a bit too far for me, but some moments were pretty damn cool when he switched polaritys!!! (swapped channels)

not what i was expecting at all, but a massive patch involving feedback loops, and shift button functions in the spectraphon.
:ud:

Yeah, that was a bit out of my territory. I do like feedback loops with Spectraphon and Mimeophon though.

yup, with a strega and echopon too :hihi:
the other night i had the main feedback loop mim - strega - side a spectra - echopon - mim.
with side b in the feedback loop of echophon :wheee:

also
just created my first array!!!

using the clock before creation, then tapping when i had a sound i wanted going on the sampler. several acoustic instruments, tubas and sitars, violin and such, few weird voices and some noisy bits.
not too bad, but nothing majorly exciting so far, even though i used quite different tones, it does slide through them very fluid 8)

i wish theyd put the memory card slot on the front though. would make things easier for sharing if anyone gets an "awesome" array. or for editing the data even, im sure someone will create an app :hihi:

I've honestly gotten a bit frustrated with figuring out how to make a good array. For now I'm just going to concentrate on SAM mode (which is awesome) and occasionally use SAM with the default or one of my few lucky half-decent arrays.

What I hope for:
- firmware update that makes array capture sound more like SAM results. Maybe the normalization that Walker mentioned might be messing with things -- there's definitely something weird happening but whether it's expected weird or buggy weird, I don't really know.
- someone to figure out the trick of it and write up a guide or make a video tutorial.
- people sharing a bunch of good arrays.
- someone (maybe Make Noise) publishing the file format details
- someone making a tool for editing/creating arrays.

You guys should ask Tom Erbe about it, hes a super nice guy. 👍

I canceled my order earlier and went another route.
She seems a bit of a diva, surely not immediate to get good results and the results are often pretty harsh in nature.
I did like the EBM basses some guy got out of it.
It also seems that people are trying to use it as a wavetable of sorts, capturing bits of character of a soundsource.
But with a wavetable it suffices to have a single cycle and some interpolation, to get interesting movement going.
In the spectral realm though, i guess you need enough sample data to realise interesting movement, as a sampler also does. Data which is pretty lacking imo.
Anyway, it looks to like capturing a single snapshot of a spectrum isn t getting you pretty far in SAO mode. Looks like the SAM mode is the more interesting one, and if it is a processor then, maybe a dual module with such a huge HP wasn t necessary.

Not sure if that is what is going on, but i went for a fat wavetable osc instead and extra money and hp back in the bank.

You can get these extender things in various lengths, the cable is narrow enough to fit between a couple of modules. Ive got one on a Knit Rider module.

Some are only micro-SD at the 'plug' end, full-size SD on the other, but pretty much half the microSD cards Ive ever bought came with full-size adaptors, so I assume most folk would have one or two of them. Makes swapping them a wee bit less fiddly too, IMO.
An idiot on Set Theory:

ooh cool. couple of them will come in handy cheers :tu:

At his soundhack email? I was kind of thinking of just emailing Make Noise support to ask some things.

There's no special sauce that Spectraphon lacks that wavetable oscs have. A lot of my favorite wavetables (either created in SynthEdit, or in Shapeshifter) have a very simple additive source.

The only thing that's stopping me using Spectraphon as a pseudo-wavetable machine is the additional processing of the spectra that seems to happen during array capture, making results a lot less predictable.

Yeeeah, just 'a bit'. :hihi: For me, there were a few interesting moments/ideas, but I think some people are taking serious liberties with the term "krell" (patch[ing]), which (personally) does the frequently reverential 'association' with its origins/history, somewhat of a dis-service. Could be just me.

Yeah his soundhack email. I've discussed his make noise collaborations with him before.
Im sure hed be helpful if he is able.

I started writing up some questions, and then went back to watch Walker's video on array creation to see what he'd said about normalization.

I noticed he wasn't particularly trying to dial in "proper" tuning on Focus/Slide like I was, and generally had Focus set much lower than I tend to. But in his particular examples, the arrays sounded closer to what was in SAM. Maybe what I was doing for accuracy in SAM is counterproductive for arrays. So I'll experiment more, if only to have more coherent questions to ask.

starts with a single sample.
then a sam version of the same sample joins in.
then an array of the same sample on the other channel. (then some echophon is added to the bass drone from this)

then delay and such...

Sounding good! Watching live at the moment
