the newsletter email i got does not mention an upgrade, just the first-time buyer price. you might want to look into who gets which email or at least mention the upgrade if they're generic emails sent to all subscribers.

I did receive an e-mail for the Electra upgrade, the link just went to the shop, just like the link here, where I was charged the full amount, just like in the link here

I checked out the links on the website and they work as expected. Make sure that you click on the 'buy now' link next to 'upgrade' and not next to 'synthesizer full version'.

Icarus 2.5

Icarus2.5 has the most powerful resynthesis of the Tone2 synths and maybe the most powerful resynthesis of all synthesizers on the market. It offers many different methods for resynthesis.
It supports automatic pitch detection and automaticly creates complete patches. It is also able to extract a pitch envelope and wavetables.

Here is the text from the website:

With Icarus anyone can build fantastic sounds quickly and easily. Traditional resynthesis methods require a deep knowledge of sample-editing in order to achieve good results. It needs time-consuming pre-processing with a sample-editor and precisely tuned samples.
We have taken care of these problems for you and have developed completely new algorithms. Icarus' innovative wavetable-resynthesis can rebuild sounds with a single mouse-click! It works with nearly any kind of audio-material and produces high-quality results. Simply click the button, select a wav file and Icarus will automatically create a patch, which sounds like the original. Optionally, you can further shape your sound with morphing, BPM-synchronization, time-stretching, the filters, the effects or any other module.

Here is an old video from Icarus1. It still has not the features that Icarus 2.5 has, but it shows pretty well how the resynthesis works in practice.


Electra and Nemesis

These products are not as powerful as Icarus. They are not able to extract complete wavetables or pitch-envelopes. They can extract a single-cycle waveform from the middle of a sample. The pitch of the sample is detected automatically and the waveform is properly looped automatically. This methods works well for static sounds like organs.

Gladiator and Warlock

These products use a synthesis method called HCM (harmonic content morphing). It is related to additive synthesis and morphs a spectrum with 256 snapshots.
Both products come with a larger selection of re-synthesized and pre-processed spectra from classic instruments like pianos, trumpets, organs etc. These spectra/instruments can be altered with algorithms.

RayBlaster

It also offers a resynthesis function. It uses an granular approach for it. It works well for short (drum)loops or antonal content.

Does the upgrade price get lower on something like Black Friday? I also feel that 39 EUR is not that attractive.

I'm happy when an upgrade is only $/€39. I would say most of the developers are charging more.
