Holy crap!!! I had that same Lego set that is on the cover, when I was younger. :o

Post

er... anything specific in there that would make it a Live fill?? I mean, nice try and all, to get the newbies to buy it just cuz they got Live, but it's just loops and samples afterall, right?

Hey folks. Just wanted to touch base and answer a few questions.
What sets a LiveFill apart from just a regular set of sounds is the fact that it ships with installers for both Mac and Windows, placing all the sounds for convenient and instant access from Live's onboard instruments and effects. Think ReFill, but for Live, more or less.

The other difference is that a LiveFill is built from the ground up specifically for use within Live. That means all the Simpler patches are already pitched to your keyboard, the drum kits are mapped out already, and all the patches are neatly named and organized for fast access. The main feature is the installer, which after a single click places all the components at your fingertips. In the same way, you will be able to remove a LiveFill from your system with a single click as well.

It kind of walks the line between sample CD and "ROMpler". The idea is simply to give Live users something new and something useful. Prior to this there was no simple method for users to add entire custom collections to the program. This is what we set out to do. We are planning more features and we want the format to grow within the Live community.

Having said that, we are also eager to work with sound designers or producers of "regular" sample collections to bring their product to the LiveFill format. The system is cross-platform, easy-to-use, and works well both on CDROM and as a download. We are not trying to change the world, or change Live. We just love Ableton's amazing product and want to bring something fresh to the community. Anyone with questions of any kind please feel free to drop us a line at info//@//trackteamaudio.com. Hope that clears things up a bit.

Happy Holidays,

If it was just a sample CD then it wouldn't have presets for the Live FX, Midi files for Impulse (mapped to the notes), Simpler patches, and Drums kits also mapped to the Impulse pads... Try the demo, ...the fx presets alone are worth it as far as I'm concerned... I have a million samples already, and I have a ton of midi files, but they're all over the place, and they aren't mapped specifically for Live... You got the time? Good for you... I'm all for saving time myself... These setups are well done, and the concept is a nice alternative to just buying a "sample CD"... Which you have to do all the work...

If there are any sample CDs out there that do That? I don't know of em...

That does sound convenient, but here's what I'd really like:

Do all the above, but also include something like "performance sets" where all the samples, loops and patches are arranged in the session view as 'clips' for a particular style or musical genre. This would appeal to DJ types or Live PA artists like myself, or simply those who love working with the session view in Ableton Live.

Basically, these would be completely pre-built Live files. Each files' session view would have a mulitude of clips arranged in the session view. Also, the session view would be occupied (from top to bottom) by 'regions' of color coded clips. Each region would have 20-40 clips that would represent a given musical 'section.' Furthermore, all clips would have contextual relationship with each other in the file. What I mean by this is: each clip would be surrounded by other alternate clips that would also work with other clips in it's immediate region.

Let's say one of these packages (such as the Toolbox) is designed for the electronic musical genre: Drum and Bass. One of the many "Performance Sets" could be called: "Liquid Funk", or "Dark and Evil" or maybe "Tech Steppin" with each one simply being a pre-built Ableton Live file with the session view filled to the brim with clips. To do a fairly decent length set (let's say 45min - 1 hour) you would have to have a reasonably large set. I would say 5-7 'regions' of color coded clips and some transitional phrases or evolving pad clips for use in between each region.

This is actually the way I build sets for my own live performance using Ableton live. It's VERY tedious and time consuming. So, you'd have an avid customer if you were to offer such a thing. Sure, I'd still favor rolling my own, but It would also be good to expand the library with additional material.

Especially cool would be performance sets constructed by famous DJs and or songwriters/artists or better yet, pre-licensed commercial works from greats like Motown or Casablanca. Wow, the possibilties...

Anyone else like this idea?

Exit Zero -

I think its an interesting idea, but perhaps some people would see it as one step too far in the "pre-made" type direction.

I mean if its basically whole tracks laid out for you, it'd certainly be a fun remixing type thing, but wouldn't most people rather use loop libraries to supplement their own stuff rather than have whole "paint-by-numbers" type setup?

To look at it another way, if you wanted to really make your own tracks, you'd end up replacing many of the clips anyway.

I guess its just different strokes for different folks :)

But i definately think its good to have these packages tailored to the application, there are many great advantages to this approach, maybe they'll become more popular for other hosts.

Imagine EnergyXT set with loops for audio parts or sequencer, sampler patches, arp patterns, drum patterns, selection of differnt modular layouts to plug these elements into etc :hyper:

Bit toasted, i'm rambling on  :D

Thanks for the feedback everyone, and the kind words! Glad people are finding it useful, that's the whole idea.

For anyone who hasn't tried it out yet, please download the demo and see what it's all about. And for those of you have ordered, we look forward to your feedback. And don't forget to enter the contest!

Thanks Again & Happy Holidays,

Yes, I understand your point.

Although a user could utilize all the regions of clips "as is" to get some jams going straight away, if the entire collection is geared toward a certain style, then you might be able to (for example) use a drum pattern from one colored region, a bassline from another region, and a lead synth from another. And of course you could inject your own material, and or cut and paste from other performance sets.

But you see, the real benefit to this is not so much the time to write all the various parts/clips, but doing so AND making sure that all clips are relatively compatible with each other. Hours and hours of testing and tweaking are required to make a Live Set such as this.

Once this is accomplished, however, you have a pallette of clips in the session view that can be used to perform improvisational sets that are always uniquely your own. Especially with all the tweakable features of Ableton Live, you can certainly "individualize" any of the pre-made clips.

I'll try to put together some kind of demo of what I'm talking about here in the near future. I'll report back to y'all at that time.
