It's quite possible these reports are system specific but how would we know if the developer has completely ghosted his own company forums....again and refuses to address the reports?

Like I said above how many developers would get a free pass for such behavior?

I think it's most likely many of the people who are defending his actions or inaction to be more precise are using the freeware version.

Those who paid for it no matter how little have a right to expect a working product with at least some support. You know as well as I do if some other developers pulled the same thing they would be flamed to cinders.

Let's not even get into what he promised customers who pay for the Subscription model.

I don't have anything against Matt as a person but as a businessman I have lost respect for him and I have lost faith in his product......

Then we have Massive X... It seems to get updates, but people are not happy with it still.
And it's not cheap synth, and it's not a one man company...

Would like to see Vital get some fixes soon.

If I remember correctly, Matt went offline for awhile without telling anyone and users were left quite confused what is happening since there were no info what is happening. After couple of months of silence, he told he was taking a break. Not sure if he is still on the break or what the situation is now.

I do understand that people need break and holidays. But sure it would be nice to let users know so they would not worry.

After all, it is not ONLY free synth. There are paid versions of the synth.
And it was IS very promising synth, with many awesome features.

Some people (or individuals close to them) can get quite sick (hopefully he’s ok) and real priorities get into focus. Then life gets rearranged…

Seems pretty solid to me. What bugs do you find?

Post

The latest version (still a beta I think?) crashes ableton when I launch it so I use the older or official current version - not a big deal.

But this is hands down the best sounding wavetable VST... just lovely and very inspiring.

All competitors to this synth sound flat out cheesy by comparison.

I will ask under this thread so don't start a new topic, hope this is ok?

What did happened to the Vital opensource project?
If I remember correctly, Vital was released as opensource some time before Matt went silent...
And some people started to work on the open source project.

Post

Would be very helpful for the Vital community, if the opensource would be used for fixing the bugs and maybe make some improvements and share these with Matt Tytel. And Matt would select the best improvements and implement the best results in the official Vital.

It WOULD be nice! But Matt only made the initial 1.0 release open source, and didn’t release any additional code. Everything done since that initial release has been closed source. We couldn’t fix bugs in the current code, even if we wanted to. I admire Matt for his open source ideals. He has tried to make an ethical business. However, he created a giant project with an immense scope. His vision captured the attention of the entire industry, and Vital is listed among the very best synthesizers in existence. I believe his project was so big, and his sales so small (from everyone using the free version) that he was overwhelmed. I suspect that his personal problems that came up were probably the tipping point and the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back.

This is all conjecture, of course, but there is a breadcrumb trail of facts that point to this being a probable scenario. The fact remains that the project is experiencing less than the expected development attention. It is a fact that Matt wanted to make money on the project—likely hoping to provide at least some level of support for himself. It is a fact that he has run into personal problems.

I believe he means well, but things are not well.

For what it's worth, I paid for Vital, and probably should have paid more because it's a very good synth.

If/when the Vital project would be updated again, it'd be a good time for many of us. If that time never comes, we still have plenty to be thankful for.

My best wishes to Matt, and respect for creating an awesome synth!

I am not sure what personal issues he is having as someone mentioned above, so hopefully my remarks don't come off too insensitive.
But I have not had good luck with reporting bugs and having them fixed by him..
One took over a year, the other one (granted cosmetic) is still unfixed for over six months (standalone on mac intel doesn't remember its location (unless it is at 100%) and core audio and core midi configs).

I am not sure I would have paid for it again if I had to relive it, beyond some great presets by Sound Author in particular.

The dev posted this on 14 April:
Hi, yes I’m fine.
I did have to step away from the forum and discord for a while because of a unexpected family health issue which took my full attention (I won’t go into details but everything turned out OK thankfully).

And yes, I’m still working and Vital (and some stuff that might go into a new plugin). I think when I have some time I’ll hire somebody to give more support and respond to users so it’s not just silent from me if I have to step away for something like this or if I just want to focus on development.
On 22 April he posted a 'rolly ball' animation for Vital knobs on Twitter and YouTube, two months ago he interacted with several users about the synth on the Vital subreddit and on June 30 he told a user that was posting questionable content on the Vital Discord not to post that there. I feel reports of Vital's death have been greatly exaggerated.

Those are really top quality.
Some very usable ones are from the guy “Bound to Divide”.

sorry he has had the family health issue, but good to know it's sorted and turned out well, whatever it may have been

i am sure we will all agree, that's the main thing :)

More than just “main”.
I would dare to say “Vital”

I have the feeling he’s not a guy that just turn his back to his creation and its users.

Vital looks like a serious work of love.
Best wishes!
