Correct - which is the general jist of this thread from the OP.

He is trying to get past the stock Dell/Alienware install that he is currently dealing with and trying to go "clean".

Just a tip on finding your product key for possible future reinstalls: There is an free app called Windows Keyfinder which will locate the key used for your current install and you can simply copy and paste the licence details to a text file, write it down or photograph the display with your phone if you want.

This is the solution. Everything else in this thread is people TRYING to actually help you, but missing the target. Do the Rufus way. I encourage everyone to do the Rufus way.

Here's another quick random tutorial on the same process:

No MS accounts required, no ( brand manufacturer added) extra bloat, etc, just a clean install.

As advised previously, you will want to download the drivers from Dell for that particular machine...and click carefully so you're not reinstalling thier crap add-ons.

Wish you well.

+1 for using Rufus. Has worked flawlessly for me, for numerous installs.

You can bypass the signing into a Microsoft account on initial boot of a new install in the ms oobe by using 'a' for both username and password. It gives an error which then gives the option to create a local account.

The restore install method indeed gave me all the bloatware back I downloaded the Windows ISO USB boot file and reinstalled that way. I didn't need a key. There was like 6 partitions of the HDD  I got rid of all them and unified the drive again.

Only problem was I didn't have wifi drivers and there is no ethernet port on this laptop so I had to buy a little adapter. All good now.

I'd be cautious of doing this - It might be fine but there's also a chance the utility could nab your product key and send it elsewhere too. Safest to locate it yourself without installing anything: https://www.avg.com/en/signal/find-wind ... roduct-key
