The one only I am sure of is the 1 pointer to myself.
Yeah I have to listen and then sleep and then listen again, etc. Also I can only take in so much new music in a day.

Somewhat related, people who desperately want to become writers finally get in a situation where they can quit their day job and they think they're going to suddenly have this huge output... but it turns out their brain can only handle so much creative output in a day. Maybe slightly more than when working 40 hours a week. Creativity needs sleep or something. And taking in the creative works of others maybe a bit similar for some of us.

As I've explained here and on Discord: my wife was out of town and I had literally nothing else to do.
I know that my comment seems like it aims primarily at you but actually it's not like that. It's more of a general statement. Other people in past OSCs voted blazingly fast too.

I was just trying to emphasize the quality of this round (imho).

I usually listen to the tracks more than 3-4 times and from earbuds, to my car, my mini studio set up and then my big cinema setup in the living room. Sometimes you wouldn't believe the details and peculiarities its sound system reveals, changing (sometimes radically) your view on a track.

Thanks for the comments on my entry, or questions/replies on other entries :tu: I can't reply right now, only next week - my big bro and nephew are here visiting :D So I'm very busy - there's also some of the last entries I've barely listened to (!) :phones:

So in a few says I'll do proper listening sessions once again, like more entries on Soundcloud and reply! :D

AND VOTE!

We have a contradiction in that many of us think that a 5 point scale isn't enough but we also don't use "1" because we're afraid to offend so really we have a 4 point scale. But then many of us also hardly give 2's. So it's practically a 3 point scale for 30 plus tracks.

I've decided to just do an even distribution. This means 6 people received 1's and you all wrote fine music. Every one of you. FWIW I started out with 18 4's and had to find a way to move a bunch down. Anyway, if someone is angry at me they can vote me low in the future, I never do any good anyway.

Some criteria: Was I left with anything at all that I could remember in my head? A problem here is that energetic and upbeat is so common that it can be hard to stand out...

I personally like slow and minor key stuff and am probably subjective in that direction. I did still give a 5 to something that was way too energetically chipper and another that had way too much damn drums. I gave a 2 to something that was very nice to fall asleep to (probably should rethink that...). I gave a 4 to something that was slow and in a minor key but the sound design maybe wasn't great. Everything I gave a 1 still had plenty of merit.

Also I apologize for my own track which, although I loved it, the reception suggests I might get last place. Sorry!

Finished voting and this time I found it hard to extract a few favourites. There are so many good songs this round! I gave mostly 4 points.

Regards!

There is no need to apologize for your decision. If somebody even get angry, then it is his lose not your. I will be thankful to anyone even for getting just 1 point. If there was zero I will be thankful even for this.

I think everybody done great job no matter what score you get.

This is THE point, the scoring is all relative, tinged with personal preference for genre and composition, and also some analytical examination of the sound design and mix/mastering.

If our own track could be given a ZERO (makes absolutely no difference to the overall rankings), then we could truly use a 5 point scale!

Richard/Brian?? Maybe it's time for a little change given the quality of tracks coming in all the time?

As with all things in this world, a normal distribution would not be out of the question unless we have all stella tracks submitted!

Just some thoughts from an old aged f*rt!!!

Done voting! With the steady increase in quality, I've also had to recalibrate my voting criteria to get away from a huge chunk of fours...
