TBH, I'm a bit disappointed after watching this. Unlike with most of the other Behringers, the differences to the original synth seem to be quite big, and, especially the thing with the filter envelope seems to be quite the deal breaker.

Yikes what is wrong with all those weird limitations on the behringer version? Maybe they can fix it in the firmware, but something they can't fix are those horrible horrible tiny dials! Have fun trying to get a satisfying filter sweep!

Because you know, aesthetics and ergonomics, style, inspiration actually matter in a musical instrument!

Yes you can hear the difference clearly in his Bass patch and that little extra filter depth gave it a better snap and a Rounder Bass sound.

The P800 Sounds good on it's own and i am happy to own it but when i tried to dial in some Basses i could hear what Starsky heard and the Basses ends up sounding more generic and restrained because of it but it is great for Leads and Other sounds.

I hope they see his Video and fix the Minor issues but it is still a Awesome Synth for the Price they are asking for it and it could also be how his Synth is calibrated and if he tried to compare it to another P600 it would also not be the same.

Now i am Waiting for the 8 Voice Moog Source they have Planned to make in the same formfactor which looks awesome and would be a good Team Member to my P800 :tu:

Those dials are not Tiny at all and are bigger than the ones on the Prophet 8 Rev 2 and prophet 6 and other synths + They have a good amount of resistance which makes them a pleasure to use compared to other Synths i own and have Owned so i was actually surprised there :)

I also hope they will fix the mod options to be more correct or give me a option to Choose between those 2 like they have done on the Envelope behaviors.

I don’t care how close it sounds to the original, I only care about how it sounds on its own,…and it sounds pretty good to me. I already have plenty of analog polys, but I’ll likely pick one of these up when I good deals start hitting the secondhand market.

I totally agree. Like undoubtedly the majority of buyers, I've never (and never will) own the original so is it really a huge issue? Behringer listen and have already 'fixed' the envelopes as per user requests, so I've no doubt future firmware updates will come.

The only addition I'd really like is a software 'librarian' to be able to better manage (and name!) my presets. Whether this becomes part of the Synthtribe app or separate software is fine, as long as it happens 🤞

Not bang on, close enough for an “inspired by” product but not quite there for a clone. I suspect we’ll see another firmware update to the close that gap a touch; hopefully to the point it won’t matter for the majority of us.

I mean, if it's a huge part of the original sound missing because of the weird restrictions, then yes it matters. It's like buying a defective product.

yes and no, what if the restrictions, make it great in a different way?
while not being a great emu/clone, it can be a great synth still :)

im not saying yes or no, i havent heard one yet outside youtube.

Whether it sounds like the original or not (personally I don't care), I think it sounds fabulous and I'm absolutely loving it :D

I would wager that 90%+ of all Pro-800 buyers will be people who have never have seen or touched a Prophet 600 in real life and won't know or care about the differences in sound.

Way more than 90%. Never mind using one, I'd never even heard of the original before Behringer cloned it and I've been around the block a few times. I wasn't particularly excited when they announced it initially cos I had no idea what it was apart from being a ridiculously cheap poly. More like 99% of us would have no clue what a 600 sounds like. It's an obscure synth for a reason...

Behringer has just anounced that a update is comming with double the Vcf adsr Amount and some minor bugfixes and more features and goodies will come in later Firmwares :tu:

Even with this ruff start with some quirks here and there it is still a better experience than i had for months with my Korg Prologues :)

Post

Well that's good news, sounds like they're fixing the issues Starsky Carr brought up.
