If so what is it for you and why.

Looking to buy one inspiring reverb. I only have Raum, which is pretty damn good, but I am getting rid of NI stuff.

Post

Actually i find most reverbs to be inspiring in some way. The more weird or controllable (meaning not just sweet spots) are more inspiring.

there are lots of reverb threads with lots of details to be found here, too.

I actually missed out on Raum somehow. I must have been celebrating too much and then one day i went to download and it was no longer a holiday gift

you might try going through the dozens of "list your favorite reverb" threads that have come before yours.

or you could just spin up yet another reverb list because yours is special.

Super Massive maybe? Yet, dont listen to me, as I am a Reverb Addict. :hihi:

Except the BR RO-140. That one sounds so awful to me it is uninspiring. UVI Plate is the complete opposite. Superb and deep.

Get Fog Convolver 2.

Which is interesting as there is also VREV-140 by Fuse Audio.

Did Ray work on RO-140? I thought he was long gone from BR by the time it came out.
I use Fuse plugins all the time. Some of my favorites. I can't see his hand on such a lousy sounding one like the BR 140.

I agree with this for this peculiar feature : being a tempo based reverb with a tempo-based
envelope
:tu:

I agree also about fog convolved 2, as an IR based engine...more than a reverb in its own way

The only "inspiring reverb" I've experienced is in the real world, finding interesting physical spaces that are practically begging to be blasted with sound. Plus, you get the sort of residual vibe or "energy" of the place or whatever ... try recording in an abandoned church at night, for instance. The ideas that will come to you will be unique, I'd wager... at least that's how it is for me. That's instant inspiration to me, just taking in the space, reacting to it, playing it. Not sure a plugin can really come close to that ... but that's how I'd classify a reverberation as "inspiring."

+1 for Fog Convolver though

raum.

our abandoned churches quickly become flats. almost overnight sometimes.

Cascade as well

Generally I feel like reverbs can be broken down into:

- general purpose, dependable, never a bad choice. The Valhalla reverbs fill this role for me, or sometimes Arturia Plate-140 or convolution. To me these aren't necessarily inspiring in their own right, but are very helpful.

- reverbs that just don't work very well for some material but sound brilliant on other stuff. I'd put Raum in this category, and some of the more lo-fi reverbs. These can bring occasional inspiration.

- "sound design" effects which don't attempt any kind of realism, require a lot of tweaking and customization, but can be seriously fun or transformative. To me these tend to be the more inspiring ones, but they aren't the best choice for every case. Velvet Machine, Cascade, and a lot of the things in that "maybe it's a delay, maybe a reverb" region -- Desmodus, Imitor, Valhalla Delay.

(Velvet Machine is almost a utility for me too... I use it a ton when I play bass guitar, but also within narrow bands to clean up clipping/distortion artifacts or unwanted textures.)
