HiFi-system history

Dear all,
I am conducting a research on how hifi-systems did change from the 1960s up to today. To get a good database I'd like to ask you for pictures of your stereo (preferably from the 1960s-1990s). The quality of the picture isn't important, the most important thing for me is to see how the audio equipment integrates into your living room or listening room. My thesis is that hifi-systems started from being compact stereograms, becoming huge hifi-systems in the 80s with dedicated lsitening areas and are currently getting back to in-wall speakers and all-in-one gear. That I do have to prove though. So, if there's anyone out there able to support my research that would be very much appreciated! The results will be initially presented on a conference in Bern (Switzerland) in September 2023. Thanks so much for your effort and best regards, Frank

Look for scans of Tandy catalogues, they started in 1974 and give you part of the overview you're looking for.

i am however, not sharing a pic of my current set up, as my decor is unfavourable.

I have a Sony Minidisc player like that ... and also a Sony DAT with a tape firmly stuck inside. No more Sony gear for me. Just remembered my DVD is a Phillips model.

Mine doesn't read the disc that's in there, and won't eject it either. Lasted less than 3 years.vurt wrote: Mon Jul 10, 2023 8:38 pm never had a dat, but yeah, my minidisc player from sony did not last long.

I replaced it with the portable model which still works fine after 22 years.

I had a pretty decent setup. Pioneer 100 something or others, big 60lb. boxes, Technics amp/receiver, Technics turntable, Sony DBX cassette deck. Those speakers moved air. They're gone as of last January.

My very first. A GE Wildcat 'Portable' (yet with a cord and no batteries. I called it my Scratch and Play. I wore out many ELO albums on this.
