Enable gpedit.msc for windows 10/11 home (delete defender 2!)

Hi everyone, if you're wanting to use a third party security software, like maybe the free kaspersky cloud like I use, then you have to keep in mind that there is some extra services running still running in the background which can slow you down.
I notice too, in the case of daw's; these services can really slow down vst load times. But for those using the home version of windows 10 and 11, we are hampered by the inability to use the local group policy editor. I was surprised to find a very simple fix for this on youtube.
Merely press the youtube button on the bottom right of the video, and in the video's description on youtube.com, you will see a google drive download link. It's a nicely designed batch file and it worked well for my system; it may suit your needs too.

you may find you need the "take ownership" control in your context menu handy:

get autoruns here for extra control:

Overall, after using this program; my laptop is no longer hot, I used to use a laptop cooler with fans.

I used gpedit.msc to turn off realtime virus check and also autoscheduled runs of defender.
And I don't run any other antivirus either.
Other things that speed up start is Application compatibility checks, can also be turned off with gpedit. Compatibility assistant too unless you need it.

Is a good idea, thankyou. Updated the list with a few tools btw, including the defender destroyer; which is hella goodlfm wrote: Wed Jun 07, 2023 7:51 pm Other things that speed up start is Application compatibility checks, can also be turned off with gpedit. Yep. No Defender here on Win7 either and disabled the automatic perf checks. Hope can do those on Win11Pro too.

I would not recommend pro because of remote assistance having a toll on resources. The home version does not include remote assistance. Is like a building with smart outlet adapters, smart lights controlled through a phone (by a program like Google home). There's more details and there is more work.legendCNCD wrote: Fri Jun 09, 2023 1:40 pm Yep. No Defender here on Win7 either and disabled the automatic perf checks. Hope can do those on Win11Pro too.
Professional versions are for offices, and remote assistance is designed for IT administrators to fix your system if you break it, or to update it. There's a lot that goes into remote assistance.

To my knowledge, when Remote Assistance isn't used (even though its installed by default on Enterprise/Pro), it isn't used.
Which means zero CPU cycles and zero memory usage.

Another top tip: If you're concerned about security issues probably best not to download a batch file hosted on an anonymous google drive and blindly run it with Admin privileges

Wow, lotsa iffy advice in OP. I agree with cnt and mcbpete. Remote Assistance can be disabled and i wouldn't even download that file never mind run it as administrator!
