It is mostly for nostalgia, back in the day vanguard was very popular in the psytrance and progressive psy scenes.

As I understand it, the oscillators and filters are identical, but there's a new reverb algorithm (for better or worse). The math may also be more accurate (double vs single-precision), which can lead to a cleaner sound.

Wow, what a fascinating thread, even though I don't own any Tone2 or ReFX products and never owned Vanguard.

Vanguard 2 sounds nice, I can see the appeal, but is it special enough against other (better) replacements?
