for the unmix test aren't these all using the same pretrained demucs models so should sound somewhat close? there are quite a few free tools that let you run that. I'm curious about the variation here. Very impressed with both Spectral Layers and RipX TBH.

For unmixing, there is also the free Universal Vocal Remover: https://ultimatevocalremover.com/

It uses a whole bunch of different pretrained demucs models. If you dig in a bit and find the right settings, it gets some really good results. I might be mistaken, but I remember it also doing more than just vocal extraction - stem splitting.

On the other hand, SL10 doing singular drum sound extraction like just the kick or just the cymbals is quite nice.

I’d stay clear of RipX, because I find that their software is post-production unfriendly, because of their annoying policy of their software absolutely needing to call back home at least once in 5 runs, else it deactivates the purchased software. What a tasteless joke of a policy could be this. While some post-production and audio editing studios are equipped with constant Internet connection, that’s not always the case and offline post-prostitution studios simply can’t use it. The developer really doesn’t care about it being used for any serious audio restoration work. Oh, you’re taking your laptop on a flight and want to unmix something? Don’t hold your breath, because after 5 restarts your RipX is no longer activated.

I think that all other three audio restoration pieces of software - RX Advanced, Acoustica Premium + DeVerberate and SpectraLayers Pro have their good and bad sides. I for one have no clear favorite. For reducing reverbation I’d go for DeVerberate 3. For unmixing SpectraLayers Pro works slightly better, because of using custom Demucs implementation. For SRC I’d choose RX. For isolating dialogue from noise I’d go with RX Advanced or in more difficult cases I prefer to use SpectraLayers to manually remove the noise without really damaging the voice too much. RX Advanced is for the moment sadly the best suite for audio/dialogue denoise, unless one needs to open tens of different plugins. For certain tasks as deessing, plugins like DMG Essence or Sonnox Oxford Dynamic EQ are better at what they do.

Have you listened to the dialogue denoise and dialogue dereverb comparison ?

Thank you for your link and for creating SL. RX needs viable alternatives and this is why Sl and Acoustica should keep evolving. I already have SL 10, so I can actually test it myself with different noisy dialogue samples. And what I see is that in some and situations using my samples RX performed better isolating dialogue from all sorts of background noise, in other cases not. Sometimes splitting the noise from dialogue with SL 10 and then removing manually the unwanted noise from the layer with noise was the only way to not damage the dialogue. Where SL 10 shines for me is when I need yo unmix.

quick question, how do you authorize Spectralayers 10 Pro? and on how many machines is this possible?

Licenses are activated using the Steinberg Activation Manager. You can activate a license on up to 3 machines simultaneously.

i think spectralayers right now takes the cake.

most others still use some implementation of Spleeter and sound similar in effect.

if it'd have effective mouth-declicker and few specific processors like RX, it would probably be the clear winner

If you want to give it a try, SpectraLayers 10 trial was just released: https://www.steinberg.net/spectralayers/trial/

pretty impressed by it, for layers i prefer this one more than RipX cause you can dial in and out more precisely. i didnt test much yet but definitely better than RX7 (i dunno RX10).

Yep, SL10 is the one to beat right now.

Thinking of doing the 'competitive crossgrade', how does that work ? Does anybody know what 'proof of eligibility' is needed ?

yes you need to prove that you got one of the following
Adobe Audition (Single App and Creative Cloud subscriptions)
iZotope RX 5 and later (Standard / Advanced)

just upload/send them an invoice or something to prove you got it.

Ok thanks. I own RX7, but don't know if i have any invoice or something. Guess i just see what Steinberg asks for.
