Hi All,

We’re extremely pleased to introduce Modus, a new style of instrument which combines the science and power of physical modelling with the control and range of a traditional synthesiser.

Modus uses powerful physical modelling to mimic the way strings and plates behave, giving you several formulations of these elements to create three types of instruments: Strings, Plates and Strings-Plate. You control the relationship between these elements and their connection through “Rattles” or “Springs”, producing a range of dynamic overtones and textures depending on your chosen configuration.

Modus is a virtual synth environment that simulates a rich physical dimension, which means you have control over first, how the elements behave, and second, how they’re processed. The more you delve into the effects and modulation options available to you, the more depth you’ll find in your sound – there’s playable realism in every corner of the plugin.

To celebrate the launch of Modus, you can get it from https://physicalaudio.co.uk/products/modus/ now with 40% off for a limited time only.

Feature List:

- MPE-compatible
- LFO modulation
- High and Low-shelf EQ
- Per-sound gain mixer
- Pre-amp limiter
- VCF with Moog-modelled drive
- Stereo Delay
- Reverb
- Output Trim
- Damp control
- VST3, Audio Units, AAX; Universal Binary for Intel & Apple Silicon

Congrats on the release.

I purchased it and am loving it.

Very eerie sounding!

Is multi strike supposed to be permanently on when using the strike driver on the plate model?

Whenever I select strike driver in the plate model multistrike is engaged with no ability to turn it off. (greyed out)

I'm running it as a VST3 in Abelton latest version on Mac.

Yes, that's how strike works.

Hi,

So Multi-Strike is enabled in the Plates configuration when you select the Striker. If you turn the rate low down then you can control individual strikes from a Note-On.

Thanks. That makes sense since strike is more or less an impulse, right? ie. Note length doesn't matter.

There's something weird going on though.

If I change the connector mode from rattle to spring (or vice versa) it stops multi striking.

That is how it works. Changing the connection type causes the system to reset: you will need to trigger a new note.

Thanks! Eerie is certainly an appropriate description for this!

I'm triggering it with a single note looping in Abelton. So there is new note/trigger every bar.

Does it have to wait until the envelope stops/resets for it to register as a new trigger?

This particular sound has a very long release. ie. 0 damping

Yeah the system has to damp, then perform the reset before you can trigger a new Note On.

We don't currently have micro-tuning support. Channel aftertouch is hardwired to Vibrato.

This is very nice, a bit harder to tame than Chromophone but the struck sounds in particular are a lot denser and more real sounding, as is the modelling of interactions between the different body elements, and I was able to get a wide range of textures from it. I made a NKS template for controlling all params with Komplete Kontrol with all patches saved as NKS with tagging and previews, and added a bonus set of 10 patches from my own experiments with it while I was exploring it (in 2 banks - 'Natural Acoustic' and 'Hybrid Acoustic') - no doubt I will add more, this plugin rewards experimentation

No poly aftertouch support of any kind? That’s a shame.
