The best sounding analog synth of all time?

I’m one of the people who don’t quite understand the hype of vintage synthesizers. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sound of those legends, but to me they have a stiff sort of feel due to lack of velocity and aftertouch. The 90s and 00s got me totally hooked on those features, and I’d trade them for “authentic vintage sound” anytime.

I feel ya! That's what's so great about Andromeda - it sounds very vintage, but you get the modern amenities as well (IIRC even poly AT)!

I’ve been on the brink of getting an Andromeda many times, but reports of dead processors have always frightened me away. I never understood why people don’t like it. Every demo I’ve ever heard of it sounds great to me. Best of all time? Maybe not, but what a powerhouse.

It’s all about what you’re used to. Guitar is my first instrument, so velocity and aftertouch just make sense to me. Everything else reminds me of that crap Sears organ my parents bought us. I still have a memory of my brother playing Greased Lightning on it. The first synth I had with velocity and aftertouch was the Korg DW-8000. Traded that for an Ensoniq TS-10 which had velocity and polyphonic aftertouch. Now I’m hooked on MPE, so going to a vintage synth feels like it’s dead.

Mine has two bad voices. They work but they sound bad. Unfortunately, even something relatively simple like that is hard to fix on the Andromeda.

My previous Andromeda didn’t have effects on one side. Again, an easy thing to fix on any other synth yet basically unfixable on the Andromeda.

Andromeda is good for CS80 sounds, and modular style patches.
It's basically 16 mono synths in a box, and 16 part multi
And it's flexible enough to do more complex analog drums sounds, combined with the voice analog outs.
I like to think of it as an analog workstation.

I have the CS80 Bladerunner lead thing on mine that makes me smile everytime I play it, pity no poly aftertouch :/
Even if I use my Hydrasynth Explorer or SQ80 to control it, it won't respond to poly aftertouch as a mod source

Have you ever thought of getting rid of the singer? He's like a vintage monophonic hardware synth, but with a lot more issues.

We have. We've trained up Eleven Labs AI to do the job and, so far, it's done pretty well. AI doesn't need the rider so it definitely has potential. BTW, I never take anything here personally, so you don't have to put a disclaimer on your jokes.

I think it was a demo of the Jupiter 6 ( maybe the 4?) that I though sounded the best.

That said I also really like the MS20, the studio electronics se3x is more modern and sounds amazing. I also love the Vermona 14.

The Pro3 is the best sounding Analog Mono I have owned (and I have had a few!)
The Novation Summit is probably the best Poly if that is classed as analogue! I think it sounds so much better than the 'old' synths people always refernce...it can do that, but it can do much more.
I also have a Prophet 8 rack which I love, it's my old school vintage vibe but somewhat limited- best 'Tom Sawyer' patch ever though IMO

I am not a massive fan of 'just' 'analogue' (its a bit limiting) but I have a nice analogue stuff in my euro rack, that has a lot of flexibility, I use 3 x Dixie oscillators and a wavefolder and that gives a lot of possibilities with FM and modulation and its nice to have a choice of filters to go through.

I also really like pro3 and summit. I want to buy a summit or peak to add some poly to my pro3 and sub37 mono synths.
