Actually to help.one choose their DAW can be lumped much easier:
Download all the trial versions available and see which one connects. Just have fun and play with them to get a feel. During the choosing process and/or after having chosen a DAW, any required assistance can be available via videos, forums (maybe even a dedicated forum for the DAW chosen) and of course the manual.
As for those who bicker which DAW is the best, use that natural phenomenon known as Intelligence to decipher which information assists in getting you going. May the force be with you and God bless.
Ask not what your DAW can do for you, but what you can do with your DAW

Q: which DAW should I chose?
A: have you tried Reaper?

For a hobbyist, Reaper seems like a huge amount of power for the price. I need to check out Logic but it’s difficult for me to get excited about a DAW that I can only use on Mac since I regularly use both platforms for home and work tasks.

It says Reaper is $60. It has been that price since forever. It has also been the case like forever that you can run it in fully functional demo mode: one nag-screen on startup.

Conclusion
As for the others on the list, do your research and make the best decision you can for your needs.

Reaper is powerful, and $60.00 is worth consideration. If audio is your primary focus, it is up for the task. If you are using MIDI instruments heavily, you will need to purchase some virtual instruments. Many of the DAWs on the list come bundled with a decent to excellent selection of instruments. Reaper comes with many audio effects, but the aesthetics leave something to be desired. You might want to invest in 3rd party plugins as well.

Reaper is definitely a steal for the price. Since you are a hobbyist, and if you do find Reaper's plugs aesthetically displeasing, you may want to consider using excellent freebies and save money. All these work seamless in Reaper:

INSTRUMENTS
1. Dexed
https://asb2m10.github.io/dexed/
2. Surge XT
https://surge-synthesizer.github.io/
3. Cardinal (if you want to get deeper into modular synthesis. It comes with Surge XT modules)
4. https://github.com/DISTRHO/Cardinal/releases
5. Full Bucket synths

6. MONSTER drums for drum sounds

For mixing and mastering there's:
1. Analog Obsession. Theyre free but you can donate if you find them useful.

2. TDR Nova EQ

3. Voxengo

And many others but these are what i use.

I have found the Reaper Mania channel extremely valuable in helping with getting around Reaper.
