I think the distinction is near meaningless.

Go read the changelogs for some of the previous free Logic 10.x updates. They are bigger than some paid "major version" updates for Live, Studio One, etc.

(You of course can define it how you want, but I think the amount of new features and improvements is a more meaningful measure than whether a single number is changed.)

There have been a number of major versions in the past 4-5 years.
There's a different between "major updates" and "major versions". I implicitly meant Logic Pro 11 as a "major version" and it will actually be called a major version release.

What you mean is Logic Pro received major updates even in minor/point update versions.

But anyway, we probably understand what we are saying.

My point is that we don't even know if there is an 11 in the works... it could just keep going as it has for years.

Logic Pro could keep going in FL studio model, some add-ons paid. Mac computers are good dongles for the main app so revenue will come anyway :)

I will happily pay upgrades to Ableton.

If you think Apple is just going to release Logic 11 and give it to all the previous users for free, you're in for a rude awakening. What other company has ever done that and why does Apple have to be the one that does?

Have fun crying some more when Live 12 comes out and guess what, Ableton is going to make you pay for it!

A typical completely meaningless and useless KVR speculation thread… Who cares if the next major update is called 10.8 or 11.0 ??? I don‘t !!!

The idea is there, whether accurate or not, that 11 will be costing and 10.8 wouldn't

The only cost is newer hardware as everything below Big Sur will probably be dropped. Maybe even Monterey will be the new minimum.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

I don't think there will be another hardware requirement! Apple Silicon is the future (and present) of Apple. Everything or most everything runs on M3, runs also on M1. It would be very strange if OS runs on M3 but not M1 chips, say in 3 years of now.

Anyway, I have changed from Big Sur to Monterey to Ventura on the same M1 and I'm sure Sonoma will run fine on my chip. So why worried?!
I have my M1 little bit than one year, and it's easy to serve me well for another 5 years! Although, I'm looking maximum other 2-3 years before replacing one of my siblings computers with this one and buying a new Apple Silicon one for me ;)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

The old 'pay > for the hardware ploy!' 3rd time I've fallen for it this week!
This M1 mini is my 3rd computer in 10 years, and it has plenty of life left. Bonus is, it cost 50% of my previous iMac. The first one of the 3 was a defective mini with a fan that switched on just with iTunes, and I don't really count it. The 2nd the late 2015 specced out iMac. The M1 mini is way more powerful than that machine. I expect 3-4 more years from it.

That is pure speculation… If they would rename it to „beyond logic“ I would expect that…

I'm still using my 2014 MBP with Big Sur for programming, it works quite nicely still and I just churned out Universal versions of my plugins last night. All my music and work stuff is on my M1 Air at my desk. The old MBP follows me around...

And yes, the Air is about 5 times faster. Yay! Now I can do a whole project with no freezing.

Well from history, every major version is a paid update.. I paid for the upgrade to Logic 5, Logic 6 "Pro", Logic 7, Logic 8, Logic 9 (remember when 9 still came with discs and manuals?)... Its not really speculation when history shows they charge for every new major version. I think I even have a Logic 5.5 box in my pile in the garage, which was the first Apple owned version, and last release for Windows..

Seriously people, $199 aint nothing to complain about if they do. Getting your foot in the door with Logic Platinum was about $7-800, and those updates were not cheap either.
