Dear KVR Members,

We are happy to release Blue Cat's Re-Guitar 1.3, a free update for our guitar tone modeling plug-in capable of emulating an infinite number of guitars out of a single instrument.

"Re-guitaring" can be used to enhance or completely modify the guitar tone while playing an instrument, or to virtually switch guitars after recording - just like we already do with guitar amp simulations for example.

Re-Guitar 1.3 now supports any type of piezo pickup as input (in addition to existing magnetic pickups), so it is possible to get real acoustic guitar tones out of direct piezo recordings, as shown here.

This new version also includes improvements for the hollow body simulation and a few other enhancements (full list below).

The free update can be downloaded from the same location as the original full version (link received by email upon purchase). Re-Guitar is exceptionally on sale (30% off) until August 17th, while existing customers will receive an even better deal by email. Demo versions are available on www.bluecataudio.com in most plug-in formats for Mac and Windows PC.

What's New:
- Added piezo input pickup type to enhance the sound of acoustic or electric guitars with piezo pickups.
- New switch to invert the phase of the hollow body simulation for a larger palette of sounds.
- Improved integration with MIDI controllers.
- Slightly faster plug-in loading time.

System requirements:
- Apple Silicon or Intel Mac running Mac OS 10.9 or newer.
- PC running Windows Vista or newer.

Introduction Pricing until August 17th:
- Blue Cat's Re-Guitar: 69 USD/EUR (instead of 99)

Enjoy!

I may just have to pick that up. My acoustic’s piezos aren’t that great and I think it might be fun on my electrics.

Piezo DI takes are indeed most of the time a pain to work with!

Regarding electric guitars, you can just sell them all but your favorite one, and Re-Guitar will do the rest!

I know I’m probably an outlier, but I only have 3 electric guitars. An early 80s G&L, early 90s Steinberger and a Cort Sitar knockoff that sucks but my wife bought it for me so it’s got sentimental value. So really only two, not including a Steinberger bass, and none of them are going anywhere. I don’t know why, but I never really feel like I need another guitar, even though I see a bunch that look fun to own.

This will definitely get bought by me. Just tried the demo with my acoustic and its piezo. Lots of fun!

Can it also turn piezo into magnetic pickups? Let's say a piezo fretless bass into a musicman style humbucker. Can anyone report?

No, the magnetic pickups simulations are disabled when using piezo input because there is currently no way to get them sound right, and the reason is pickup placement: the piezo pickups are usually located under the bridge, whereas magnetic pickups are below the strings.

The physics of strings make that it's very different harmonics that you get at these locations. So unless you have access to individual strings signals (like on a Variax or the Roland GK systems), you cannot simulate the magnetic pickups sound properly.
