The concept is certainly interesting. No demo? Any info about the CP/DRM scheme? This is the kind of thing where I'd really want to try first. But I really love the idea behind this.

As near as I can tell, there is no DRM whatsoever. Not even an activation key. Purchasing gets you the files. Or you can attempt to build from source, which is available for download on the site.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Tue Apr 25, 2023 4:45 pm The concept is certainly interesting. No demo? That's good news. $35 isn't a lot to ask for a drum machine, but I'd definitely be leary about buying anything from a small company I haven't heard of it required any kind of C/R style activation. This no DRM approach is appreciated. Would still like to demo though.teilo wrote: Tue Apr 25, 2023 4:50 pmAs near as I can tell, there is no DRM whatsoever. Not even an activation key. I built it from source for Mac to test it out, and there's definitely no serial required. CLAP runs great in Bitwig. Didn't test the VST3, and didn't try building the AU.

Vaguely interesting but I'd also be incredibly wary without a demo or something to hear it first. Any kind of FM synth would never be my first choice to make any kind of drums. Though FM suits hats and metallic hits. Opsix has a set of drums in one of its presets and it's...interesting is the best I can say. I've come across a few people who raved about their drums on DXs and after actually hearing them I'm not quite sure what their idea of drums is, or the state of their hearing or grasp of reality.

"OneTrick CRYPTID’s source code is available under a GPLv3 (or later) license for anyone to inspect, adapt, learn from, and improve. We've all had an app we rely on become outdated, incompatible, or move in a direction we don't like; by releasing the source code, we hope to protect users from these types of situations, and provide a guaranteed availability long after regular development has ceased. We believe that everyone benefits when users have control over their software."

I ended up picking this up the other day because these seem like cool developers doing something new. The plugin is as limited as it looks on the GUI, but it sounds absolutely terrific. Very punchy. Very crunchy (you can literally hear the low bitrate on the kick for better or worse). At $35, it's the perfect price for what it is. Big thumbs up from me.

nice to see they went with Rust instead of D this time. besides sounding great, this is very interesting as a learning resource for whoever wants to learn how to code plugins in Rust. big thumbs up!

Finally got around to buying this and it installs here:
C:/Users/{username}/AppData/Local/Programs/Common/VST3
Is this some new standard? I have hundreds of plugins and none of them have installed there before. Not even other Punk Labs plugins.

Surely there must be consensus by now...

It's the standard user directory for plugins to be installed instead of system wide.
