Introducing Fire The Dees, the first-ever de-esser plugin from Acustica Audio, available in VST2/VST3/AAX/AU formats and based on a prestigious analog mastering EQ.

Fire The Dees has been designed based on one of the most transparent high-end parametric master EQs available on the market, intended for mastering and mixing tasks where utmost accuracy is essential. This characteristic justifies why Fire The Dees, unlike its competitors, does not rely on the automatic recognition of isolated sibilants.

Instead, it functions as a genuine analog EQ controlled by Acustica’s state-of-the-art dynamic processor, which is also based on sampled gear and takes advantage of the latest Hyper technology. This approach ensures high audio quality and minimizes annoying artifacts typical of digital processors.

*Choose between 3 magnification values (1x - 1.5x - 2x) from the top left ▼SIZE drop-down menu.
Once the desired size is selected, the plugin must be removed and re-loaded to apply the changes. This action affects the currently selected plugin. New instances of the same plugin will open with this magnification.

Controls.

Models menu:

NARROW ‣ (High) notch filter with wide Q.
FINE ‣ (High) notch filter with narrow Q.
SPLIT ‣ High shelf filter.
WIDE ‣ Bandpass filter, where the bandwidth involves the entire frequency range (effectively an all-pass filter).

Choosing a de-essing operating model from the 4 available, each based on our Hyper technology, will have a great impact on your tracks, so say goodbye to harsh and distracting sibilance and welcome clarity, warmth, and a captivating vocal presence.

You can choose from four de-essing operating models that cover a wide range of applications for which a de-esser can be used, such as:

• Optimizing podcasts or vocal recordings, enhancing voice clarity and cleanliness.
• Controlling wind instrument sounds (overly sibilant or breathy nuances).
• Controlling percussion instrument sounds (cymbals).
• Creatively changing the overall character of a recording.
• Modeling high frequencies on the master bus.

- Threshold slider: Sets the threshold level for the de-essing action.
- Range slider: Sets the reduction amount of the de-essing action.
- DET slider: Sets the lower bound frequency (arrow on the bottom) and the upper bound frequency (arrow on the top) of the sidechain detection filter, which sets the frequency range in which sibilants are detected.
- OPS slider: Sets the specific frequency of the de-essing action.
- Dynamic meter: Measures the amount of de-essing effect.
- Bypass: Bypass of the whole plugin.
- Monitor listening mode (speaker icon): Isolates the sidechain detection filter.
- LR listening mode: Standard listening mode.
- Delta listening mode ( Δ ): Isolate the sibilance reduction only.
- Threshold meter: This indicates the amount of input signal of the sidechain signal driving the dynamic EQ filtering in the de-esser by the filters on the right (DET slider).
- Oversampling menu: This menu allows you to change the oversampling rate to improve the audio quality increasing the sampling frequency of the plugin and minimizing aliasing artifacts.

Get professional results fast.

Here’s a simple walkthrough outlining a few steps on how to set up the plug-in effectively:

1. Activate the sidechain filter’s listening mode (speaker icon) and search for the frequency range where the sibilance is present. Adjust the detection range (DET) and intervention frequency (OPS) settings.
2. Activate the DELTA MODE.
3. Adjust the threshold slider to match the area highlighted by the sidechain meter.
4. Fine-tune the range until you achieve the desired amount of sibilance reduction.
5. Choose the MODEL that best fits the situation (the models chosen for each preset can be of great help for this).
6. Switch back to LR mode to listen to the result.
