Because it's pretty obvious it is that when you measure it, or run low end dominant signals through it. it doesn't saturate in any particular way in response to low end signals. transformer saturation isn't just clipping, and all P42 does is clip.the new "transformer modelling" in their stuff is just a very gentle filtering of the almost infrasonic frequencies from what i've gathered, which i only tried the other week because of the almost unanimous praise it has received on Gearslutz. wasn't impressed with the comp, EQ, or P42 when compared against my usuals and outboard. plugins that will let you EQ below 10hz are few and far between, but as a free option there is Xhip's RC Filter which goes just above DC which does much the same thing on the 1st order setting as the transformer settings in Pulsar Modulars recent updates to their product linepapillons wrote: Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:05 amHow you can say that it is just a waveshaper with an highpass?TIMT wrote: Wed Jul 19, 2023 8:48 am P42 is just a waveshaper with a highpass in front of it. Every plugin of theirs i've tried has been underwhelming. Sknote AnyTesla when used subtly is the closest thing ITB i've heard to sounding and behaving like an actual transformer coupled circuit. The model in the Eventide Ultrachannel is nice when used subtly as well, though doesn't handle being driven at all well

Anyway, it "transforms" the sound much better usually![]()

I tried True Iron and honestly couldn't tell a difference unless everything was pumped to max and even then it was subtle.
Hey thanks, that's actually pretty nice.martiu wrote: Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:31 am also Analog Obsession has one free that is very good

True Iron crashes my DAW randomly and when it does it produces a violent burst of digital noise that just about fries my brain with headphones on. I stopped using it.
So my picks are...

What were your demo conditions? I ask because I used to think the same, that it was kinda meh, but after trying it on a full mix recently, with an instance on every channel, bus and master, it really made a significant difference and I now plan to use it on all mixes going forward, on the busses and master at the very least!Vortifex wrote: Thu Jul 20, 2023 2:35 pm I tried True Iron and honestly couldn't tell a difference unless everything was pumped to max and even then it was subtle.

I'm very anal with gainstaging and check levels pre and post processing, so it wasn't just making everything louder and thus tricking my ears. In combination with Sonimus N or A Console and good gainstaging and fader levels, I feel like my mixes already sound pretty good before I get stuck into EQ, compression and further saturation etc. Feels a bit like cheating tbh
I did have to crank the strength up to around 6 (minimum), but A/Bing (all instances bypassed/engaged) was like night and day the whole mix just felt lifted/forward and more present, for lack of a better description.
Always Read the Manual!

I need to try the Pulsar Massive, I somehow flew past it while producing/mixing stuff.
I did not think much of true iron to be honest back then..

I like Kelvin... sounds good to me, the autogain seems to work well and the pre/post EQ and soft clipper are a nice touch.

Waves’ BB Tubes here. They fixed the oversampling bug (all choices used to be the same @ 2x) and now I use it a lot.

That guy's clearly an idiot with an axe to grind. I have all those plugins, and I can guarantee you that they don't sound as good as BB Tubes, especially Decapitator with it's noticeable aliasing. Thanks for promoting misinformation!Igro wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2023 8:22 pmzerocrossing wrote: Fri Jul 21, 2023 1:56 pm Waves’ BB Tubes here.
