Another question would be 5.1 surround sound headphones? Do they have a place in composing music with a DAW? How does that work for some DAWs and not for others and particularly when some DAWs have video editing features built-in as well?

I remember when I had a pair of 5.1 surround sound headphones that I used with Reason back in 2007/8, so was pretty curious in how I'd be able to route audio to its individual speakers using ASIO4All. Never did figure it out but the listening experience was different with 5.1 surround sound headphones.

They make more sense when working on films and movie scores.

Also you need an audio interface that supports 5.1 (for headphones) And a pair of headphones with at least 3 cables attached. 2 stereo pairs and one sub/mono. Not really common...

What is this thread about again?

I have a pair of AKG K712... it sounds devine. I also have a Scarlett 2i2 I use as a Headphone Amp just for it. It's nice one can configure MacOS to use it as a segregate device together with the main Audio device.
I also use dSONIQ's Realphones to adjust for whatever circumstances might occur :)

Beyerdynamic DT-770s. Closed back, litlle bleed for audio tracking. Wouldn't use them for mixing. That's why I have Dynaudio BM5As.

I use Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250s for mixing, as I've no quieter way of working. DT770M 80s when I'm e-drumming. Really like the feel of them.

In order of frequency in the headphone jack: A single 'Horror-tone' (w/output set to mono) for honesty, HD-600's for occasional detail work and a few different pairs of cheap earbuds for reference. YMMV but for me, 10/10 - A bargain at 2x full price.

I use some $5 headphones from Five Below. Seriously.

Can you tell I'm not "serious" about "my music"?

I use the Sony MDR-7506. Comfortable, been around forever, won't break the bank to replace, sound great.

Ultrasone Pro 750. 10 years now and still work without any problem and I've used them daily.

A bit on the expensive side... but worth every cent.

I use Focal Elegia with Morphit in order to get a flat response.
The plus points are the quality of sound, closed so quite protected from outside noise, very easy to drive (when you don't have your Dac/amp)

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, most transparant and honest sound together with 112dB monitor vst in the master. Makes me make music for ever. I have worn out 2 sets at the moment and soon get my 3 rd set.

I do not like closed headphones. So that little bleed i don not care. I make noisy shit anyway.
