In that case I'm seriously hoping I can get a reduced update price in case I promise to never use this utter POS.

Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Doesn't Yamaha still own Korg? I thought that it was this relationship that allowed Korg to use digital waveguide algorithms in the Prophecy and Z1 (patented by Stanford or Yamaha and developed together).

Post

Yammy has partial interest in Korg, not total ownership, IIRC.

lower 48?

I've worked for hardware companies before: software is something that doesn't quite work right and you have to tinker with constantly. It is something that you can give away or sell with your hardware, in order to make it acceptable in more sales situations. Software will never be close to a primary business for Yamaha, it will always be a grudgingly accepted cost of doing business.

Pinnacle is dumping Steinberg, and Yamaha is picking up some standards expertise, and a host with which to experiment, on the cheap. If I were a Cubuse sufferer, I'd be a little concerned...

:troll:

Oh, screw that. Point us to some evidence, if you want us to believe you, political-boy. All the folks over at HC are just "Bush sucks!! Waaaaahhhh!". it's tiresome in a music forum. Please don't bring that rubbish here.

Plus, Cubase is my DAW... how am I supposed to boycott that??

as was deduced here before this was rather pinnacle selling than yamaha buying (although i heard they wanted to do that about 10 years ago). there were quite some bidders, most of them opening rather dark perspectives for steinberg. same for yamaha as their nice japanese guy explained today; they are rather keen on studio-connections. what will come out of it for sure is that pinnacle-managed parts of steinberg go back again. like sales in us (which are a laugh as of today) or the web-pages (same thing).
one other motivation seems to have been, that there is lots of cheap soundstuff destined to come from china in the near future (and recent past) which leads to a pressure to have better products which offer MORE (so bundling combined with better integration will be the main new interest).

They are now the 'Berg. Resistance is futile.

I think it's Yamaberg - tastes great with mustard and a warm pickle.

If you've seen Yammy's latest ads (back cover of CM), you'll notice Cubase & Halion are on the computer screen, in an ad that features a home studio furnished solely with Yamaha products.

They fit in the Yamaha puzzle quite nicely actually. The Motif 's sequencer & inboard sampler are jibberish. That's where Steinberg come in. Your Motif & your Yamaha O1X digital mixer all connercted to Cubase and Halion via MLan.

Oh this is great! I f**king hated pinnacle systems. everything seemed to get so cold and corporate when pinnacle took over.

Yamaha's a cool company though....this could be excellent for the future.

Peace! 8)
