Are there any plug ins I need?

Since there are summer sales everywhere now is a good time to take advantage.
I have Reaper and its stock plug ins, as well as a few extras. The marketplace has no shrotage of mixing tools, endless compressors for endless situations, eq's, this that and the other.
Is there anything that would be considered essential that Reaper doesn't cover? Now is the time to buy it I guess.
EDIT: i make electronic music, so I don't need guitar preamps or vocal fx etc.

If nothing really jumps out as "essential to you/your needs" then you can probably pass up the sales for now. You don't need to buy plugins just because it's "a good deal right now". Most companies that have sales, have them regularly enough that you can always wait for the next one, should you decide you want/need plugin X or Y.

Right, but i'm referring to specific tools I might need that stock plugins don't cover. making electronic music you probably dont need anything of the bog standard stuff reaper has eg compressor / eq /delay not sure about reverb, you might explore something new there
but fx wise you could get plenty depending on your interests

Only you can decide what you need or don't need though. I'm not very familiar with Reaper and its stock plugins, but say for example, it doesn't have a good multiband compressor, you cold argue that would be a good candidate for something to buy, but only if you actually need a multiband compressor, otherwise you are just buying it because reasons.. Aside from the dopamine hit from buying the new and shiny thing, there is no real advantage to buying stuff you don't actually need.ghostwhistler wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:29 amRight, but i'm referring to specific tools I might need that stock plugins don't cover. If you really feel you are missing a trick by only using Reaper stock plugins, try some quality third-party freebies before opening your wallet to any third-party developer. Analog Obsession have some great sounding, simple to use analog modeled plugins and they are 100% free (you can choose to sub to the devs Patreon if you want to support them, but it's totally optional)

Thanks. I'm just not sure what Reaper covers well or doesn't provide that are essential tools. Surely some things are required? I don't need a multiband compressor, I would have thought. Or do I?PieBerger wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:38 amOnly you can decide what you need or don't need though. Stock plugins can take you far. But I would take a look at Waves plugins; their C4 multiband compressor is great.

Reaper has a multiband compressor - you really dont need all that much. But you might want some FX such as a good filter with modulation. But maybe you do all that in your synths - in which case you dont.ghostwhistler wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:45 amThanks. I think play with what you have and if you really feel something is missing - perhaps with no idea what that thing is called - then post examples here and ask people.

If you're not sure what Reaper covers well or not and you're not quite sure what you think you should spend your money on, then don't. Wait until you are trying to solve a problem and can't do so with native Reaper tools, then determine what you need, check if something free/affordable is available and if not, add something that is suitable/desirable to your shopping list and grab it when it's next on sale.ghostwhistler wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:45 amThanks. No, nothing is required, and what is considered an essential tool varies from person to person.ghostwhistler wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:45 am Thanks. I have the arturia ms20 filter and Infiltrator by Devious Machines. I'm not sure I need an emulation for every different filter model going.neverbefore wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:54 amReaper has a multiband compressor - you really dont need all that much.
