yes. best to buy multiple copies, as well, in case you lose one.

If you bought a plug-in you don't need to buy it again, but it doesn't hurt to. However if they release a paid update or new version then you should to buy that. There's some notes about this in my rare expired copy of "The working professional's guide to owning and maintaining plug-ins, how to plug-in and stay plugged in"

What about discontinued plug-ins?
If a plug-in is discontinued it's still recommended you buy it on the "used" market place. The problem with not having a plug-in is that when other people talk about it, you won't be able to join in the conversation.

What about plug-ins that don't work on your current OS?
For plug-ins that don't work on your current system it's recommended you get an older secondary system. Chunky beige laptops running ancient software is hardcore stuff and we like to see it. Ditto if it exists as support software for hardware. That's a power user right there.

What if a new version is released and I don't want/need the new features, or the features I did use were removed?
Whenever a new version of a plug-in is released you should purchase it. If it co-exists with the older version you may still use it if you have to (we like vintage plug-ins too), but if not then you may need to make use of a back-up system or have multiple OS's installed that you can load. Regardless of which features you may or may not need, newer plug-ins have newer code, may likely have better sound and better interfaces, cleaner and more efficient code that will be faster and keep better timing. You will sleep better knowing you have the latest version of a plug-in.

I hope that helps. There are no copies left of this book so don't go looking, you can't get it anymore. I got it early, it was a pre-order back from the days before pre-orders were common. But if you need me to look up anything else of course I will be happy to help. It's a pretty standard reference for these kinds of issues.

There's an excellent book in the series about dongles too but of course you can't find it anymore and I don't have it, maybe someone else can chime in.

Most of the plugins are crap, you really need only 10 at most.

Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

I can’t remember which plugin it was, but I was having an issue with a U-He license and when I contacted support they said, “did you really mean to buy two licenses of…” He offered me a refund and, of course, I used it to complete my U-he collection. :borg:
