in 2011 i told myself

no, i'm not writing lyrics or poetry
i only wish i could actually write lyrics or poetry
lately, i'm on a tablet while here at kvr
i like to hit the return key
before the text goes beyond the edge of the tablet's screen
could you not just please put me on your ignore list?
to never see my long comments again?
ir would take less effort?
i like having the freedom to write
replies in all sorts of lengths
after all, the original poster did not state
"i welcome your comments but keep it short"

It's just really tiring to read it written out like that.
I had an iPad a while ago, but the experience was the same as using a laptop. Didn't feel the need to write stuff stupidly poemly...
There is no need for that.

To avoid this type of procrastinationtundra5 wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:39 pm i’m for ever trying to get a synth or a sound pack
and go through them to get the lush sounds i want
how do you stop procrastination ?
Listen to this helpful information
I’ll tell you how to quickly get things done
Instead of slowly listening to samples one by one
This part is almost mandatory
Group the samples by type and category
The next thing you want to do
Is very quickly give them a play through
Decide then and there which samples you like
The rest of them can take a hike
But don’t delete the files permanently
Back them up somewhere you see
This will have the effect no doubt
Of alleviating your fear of missing out
You’ve taken them off your working table
But should you like, they are still available
Also thanks for the remarks by “S Qeet Z”sQeetz wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 2:22 pm It's just really tiring to read it written out like that.

For letting us know annoying them is so easy
Going forward for a time
I’ll be sure to reply in poetic rhyme

If along you go, writing that way
One must say it has no stay
whatever you come up with is neither funny
not in the way of a skinned bunny
doesn't make sense the stuff you want to muck?
doesn't matter much anyway.. so what the f?

For me, perfectionism is the ultimate killer of inspiration and all things fun.tundra5 wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:39 pm having too many sounds flicking through them
can some of you who get stuff done
tell me what your process is and how you keep it minimal and fun
When looking for sounds, I always ask myself. Is this sound good enough? If yes, then I move on to the next track. This is quite easy to train up. Spend a week doing one or two complete songs per day. That makes you move quickly and jump over things that drain time and energy.

You can stop procrastinating by going for a long walk outside. When you come back home, you will be creating music. The secret to creating music has nothing to do with the tools, but what lies inside your head.

I find it super useful to generate templates with the basics of a few different track styles. One can then open the daw and just start creating. For me, the less technical stuff I need to do initially, the better I feel about the project.tundra5 wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 9:54 pm i think i’m gonna start choosing a palette of sounds turn the computer off and set a time limit to get certain things done and off at a certain time gonna try that for a few weeks
I make a fair bit of psytrance among other styles, but for psy, I used to always start with the kbbb and get bogged down on that early. That often gets fatiguing or frustrating and my zest for the ensuing song gets hooked on that one aspect. Given how precise those elements need to be with psytrance, it can easily take hours to days to get that sorted and by then, all you have is one lousy part of the track.
Nowadays, before I do kick and bass, I create basically all the sounds I wanna use, FX/rises/leads/percussion/pads and roughly sketch out 3-4 sections before even starting the grunt work of making the low end, and even then just start with a basic sampled kick/bass as a sort of place holder track.
Sometimes I may just spend a week or two not even building a track, but just running through synths and creating patches, or modifying presets, etc. Even if a song isn't progressing, my skills and palette of sounds is and that's progress.
