I would get a decent delay and reverb. You could try the various free delays and reverbs that are out there in freeware land, but when you start getting specific about type of delay or type of reverb, then you can at least start considering demoing paid effects. I recommend ValhallaDSP for both reverb and delay.

Some really great (free) legacy reverbs, delays. filters, flangers, etc here:

I still use quite a few of them. CLAP and VST3 versions have become available since the last time I looked too.

You could pick up a 'group buy qualified' IK plugin (make sure it says this in the listing) on Knobcloud and add quite a bit to your bag of tricks cheap while the group buy is still going today. You will only qualify for the €79.99 or less items but there's some good stuff there. Or just jump up to Total Studio Max 3.5 for like $100 on Knobcloud and get a ton of useful stuff including the great tapes and Stealth Limiter. But for the $15 on Knobcloud you can get The Farm Stone Room, Saturator X, White 2A, their super simple Brickwall Limiter, and 7 other tools.

Another thought might be for you to try out some of the better free plugs to see what catches your interest. Then, when you acquire some preferences, you can go shopping on Black Friday, when just about everything is on sale at the lowest prices for the year.
Maybe check out:

Valhalla has three freebies here, and a lot of people love Super Massive:
https://valhalladsp.com/
One of my favorites is BlueLab. They freed their plugs when they went out of business. They're good, and some of them are nicely off-trail:

You might find that some of the stock Reaper plugs work perfectly for you, but additional functionality or gui improvements make everything easier when you're working.
The danger, of course, is that you can quickly become a software addict, as so many of us here are.

Oh, also -- If you'd like to go insane from choice overload, you can check out the AirWindows plugs. They're free, extremely high quality, and I guarantee that many of them go far astray from any DAW's stock plugs.
Download links at the bottom of the first post.

EDIT: I just looked again, and see that you've been here and posting for years, so I imagine that you're familiar with all of the above.
One piece of advice does still stand -- hang out until Black Friday when the real sales happen.

You probably don’t need anything, but if you want to buy some plug-ins that are on sale, then you might want to look at out of the box ones like:
