Plogue Chipcrusher, any alternatives?

Not sure I can afford the asking price for what is basically a (very cool) gimmick. I already have bitcrushers and TAL's DAC plug in. But this one also has a couple of cool extras i've not seen elswhere: you can add background noise from old computers like the Commodore 64, as well as an overall/reverb esque effect based on old tech, like arcade cabinets and the TV's used to host our old primitive game consoles (the inspiration behind the project i believe). Are there any other fx that do similar things? Thanks

Not really afaik, but you might like AudioThing Speakers, Unfiltered Audio LO-FI-AF and Aberrant DSP Digitalis.

Not a bad plug in, but perhaps I might wait. What Chipcrusher does seems pretty unique

Chipcrusher has unique encode and decode types that you wont find in other bitcrushers/decimators. Most of the bitcrusher plugins i have tried seem to use the exact same algorithms with the exception of a few

Tal DAC is great, but it's the cabinet and console noise parameters that make chipcrusher unique. DAC doesn't encompass that sort of stuff.

I really wish Plogue would hit us with a summer sale I've been wanting to pick up a few things but it kinda gets crushed under others Black Friday offerings.

To me, the cabinet and noise stuff are the least unique part of Chipcrusher -- unless you mean the actual contents of those IRs and samples (it's a neat collection).

Audiothing Speakers uses a similar concept though -- mic and speaker/amp/device IRs, combined with distortion, compressor, filter and noise source. What sets Chipcrusher apart from that is its huge variety of DAC encoding schemes (and the detail you can get into tweaking them). That gate/comp also can give you some cool lo-fi artifacts.

Both Speakers and Chipcrusher are very cool IMHO, though I wish Chipcrusher had an overall wet/dry mix like Speakers does.

IIRC they tend to announce their minor sales on facebook. I've missed a few due to that.

This is actually pretty good, thanks. It may even be better suited. Chipcrusher is great but i don't think i'll get enough use to justify the price as it is gimmicky. Suits what Im currently doing but i wouldn't want everything to sound like an arcade cabinet all the time.t

Digitalis is unique

My favorite bitcrusher is Decimort2 by a long shot (except for total bitcrushing mayhem my Ottobit Jr pedal is the best). The Kritik one is good, too.
