Or they may just let them go. In the same way that NI have let go of Absynth. But they are still selling sound packs for both so maybe they are still a revenue stream.Ou_Tis wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 12:10 pmCubase is going to stop supporting VST2, so hopefully that will be enough to motivate them....ChamomileShark wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 11:05 am I've asked Roli if they intend to make VST 3 versions of Cypher2 and Strobe2. All hail Cypher 2!

Having a wide range of MPE instruments for use with their Rise seems to be a good business move. A revenue stream and a way to say, “when you buy our controller you’ll have a wide variety of synthesizers to choose from.”ChamomileShark wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 12:20 pmOr they may just let them go. This is Roli we're talking about. Good business moves aren't really their thing.

Cypher2 also has the advantage of not relying on a huge sample library (as opposed to Equator2, which takes up a lot of space and can be slow to load). And Equator2's (non-sampled) FM options are relatively limited (at least at present), whereas Cypher2 is great for FM.zerocrossing wrote: Thu Aug 03, 2023 1:47 pm

ok, so here is the reply from Roli support
"We're currently focussing development on Equator2. Releasing Cypher2 and Strobe2 in VST3 is definitely not off the cards but isn't something that will happen in the immediate future. Sorry for the disappointing news!"
Not sure when it will be that Cubase won't load VST 2 on any platform. I think they said originally 2 years when Cubase 12 was released so maybe that will be Cubase 12.5/13 or the one after that.
Roli have done some surveys and maybe they feel they don't need the Cubase user market but that's pure speculation.

I have done some surveys with myself and decided to cancel my rent to own plan on Equator 2 (at 60% already) on splice until they release Cypher 2 and Strobe 2 in VST3 for M1 Native.ChamomileShark wrote: Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:54 am Roli have done some surveys and maybe they feel they don't need the Cubase user market but that's pure speculation.
In my opinion ROLI not updating those synth is throwing dark light on the Equator 2 future too.

Let's face it: Cypher and Strobe are abandoned.
Reason: They are to advanced to appeal the masses which leads to the conclusion that the effort to update them is not worth the investment for the ROLI managers.
All things must pass.

well I think Cypher & Strobe were existing products from FXpansion and the coders have now left Roli. Equator is Roli's "own product" and it seems they are churning out sound packs for it (I think they've now stopped creating new ones for Cypher2 & Strobe2). My feeling is that most Roli hardware users will get Equator 2 as most of the Roli videos use it (or Roli player).Iva wrote: Sat Aug 19, 2023 10:50 pm I have done some surveys with myself and decided to cancel my rent to own plan on Equator 2 (at 60% already) on splice until they release Cypher 2 and Strobe 2 in VST3 for M1 Native.

There are so many options for analogue style vsts... Can cypher even compete in 2023? Also I don't like the idea of using a soft synth that is kinda made for a particular controller that I don't have

I think Angus had also coded Equator. But yeah though I don't say zero chance, I think it is slim chance that Cypher 2 and Strobe 2 would get much new development.
Hell Equator 2.5 has a bug reading some of their own presets that I reported when it was released (last year?) even that they haven't fixed.

I’d say that not only can it compete, but it actually trounces pretty much all of its competition. If someone can show me an analog synthesizer emulation that’s as feature rich and good sounding, I’d love to know about it. My only complaint about it is that the oscillators are very stable (to make the FM sound good) and to get a bit of analog imperfection you have to use mod slots.Seelachsfilet wrote: Sun Aug 20, 2023 11:05 am There are so many options for analogue style vsts... Also, it’d was not made for a Roli Rise, or any MPE controller. It was later augmented to facilitate MPE, and it’s quite good at it, but you could completely ignore it and never really know it was there unless you see the MPE preset bank when you’re switching banks.

Yes.
If Angus were still on this - Strobe and Cypher would remain in my top ten list. But ROLI is not ROLIable. Not a fan. Equator is not on my hard drive. Neither is Cypher or Strobe
I cry

Now now. I owned Strobe, since you had four synths in their original bundle you could buy. Then greed took over, they split up all those synths and sold them separately, and in the case of Strobe 2, they stuck on a huge number of effects to make nice pretty sounds and was less about the actual synth itself.

Feature wise I do agree with you.zerocrossing wrote: Sun Aug 20, 2023 1:42 pm ......

But, and yes sound is personal, I do think a lot of the newer stuff (repro, tal j8, ob-e, twin3, softube models (in particular 72 and 80)) surpassed it in sound quality.
