Hi! I'm looking for a delay plugin that has a way to randomly place echoes in the stereo field, like a ping-pong on acid.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Straight ping-pong is everywhere, but nothing more chaotic.. :help:

Thanks in advance! :)

I don't recall ever trying this, but you should be able to do that with any delay plugin that has a decent modulation section and a random LFO waveform (e.g., FabFilter Timeless3, Other Desert Cities, UVI Relayer)?

For even more ping-pong-acid-tripping, you could experiment with different routings of multiple delays.

Thanks! It could be that the delays I have are just too cheap...

I'll check out the Valhalla gear, thanks for the links!

i don't see any PAN movement possibilities in either valhalla freqEcho or supermassive...

anyway,
unfiltered audio sandman pro has a PAN placement knob
and a (quite extensive) modulation matrix, which by using S&H as modulator, lets you randomly position delays in PAN

https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/prod ... n_pro.html

also:
probably any granular should probably capably doing this
silo, arturia fragmentsFX and daniel gergely's emergence might be good candidates

p.s.:
emergence can be used as simple delay
and it's pan knob (per delay line) can be modulated by random

https://daniel-gergely.itch.io/emergence1

hy-delay 4
has a mode called "PM" with 2 independent delay lines
where the pan can be placed and also an extensive modulation matrix
with which you can modulate per S&H the pan placement

and in general it has a pan mode that can be modulated (by S&H)

I have no idea about FreqEcho (haven't used in years) but Supermassive naturally has that random panning in itself, especially strong on some algorithms.
Like, in Triangulum mode at very low "WARP" and zero "DENSITY",

It's able to sends echoes all over the place both in time (irregular delay patterns) and space (panning), which is how it manages to get into spacious reverb territory on certain settings.
I don't know if that could be too chaotic for the OP though.

Wow, thanks everyone for the comprehensive replies!

Now I have enough to keep me busy playing all weekend. Hope everyone has a great weekend too!

My final resolution: Supermassive is a keeper, although I'm not using it for THIS problem I'm using it all over to ambientize loops in addition to Molekular.

I settled on Other Desert Cities by Audio Damage, it's not 100% what I wanted but it does, more, better! So I'm more than happy with the results and am happily perverting loops and synth patches.

Again, tanks for the help!

Ohmboyz Infinity will do that. And if you want your echoes to each be panned distinctly from another, you'll want to use randomly panned taps rather than panning a delay line.

You can try the demo, the default preset is using taps to do the echoes.

Free Chow Matrix "Chow Matrix is an infinitely growable delay effect, with complex internal modulation and feedback. With extra features including pitch-shifting, diffusion, and distortion, the plugin can be used to create everything from subtle multi-tap delays to expansive reverberant spaces."

Well Supermassive just recently got an update with Virgo and Leo modes. And as for the OP's question, Sinewaves Droplet does much the same thing.

Second Chow Matrix. Also one called Multibender (but I'm not sure because I have the CM version but it looks like you can)

Cluster delay has various ways you can offset the delay in the stereo field.

The undisputed King of stereo delays, imho!, is Dual Delay X by UVI.

There are any number of ways of placing the delay.
