I think you removed at least two sample repetitions which is a step in the right direction. I understand you can't go much further than that without creating too much emptiness in the high frequency range. Any bigger changes would require major rework which could lead to diminishing returns. I am happy with the track in its current state.seismic1 wrote: Fri Jul 28, 2023 9:21 pm I "remixed" the track yesterday, removing some of the sample repetitions, and increasing the drum volume by 1dB. The kit list remains the same as used for the original mix.

I liked the sounds and atmosphere of it. A very cool experiment...
I would agree with Frantz about that vocal-like sound on the left. It present all over the track while not changing at all. It could blur into reverb more and more each time it appears to give a feeling of distance, for example.

Not really. It's not a genre I've really pursued in the past. This track just happened to fit that description, although I didn't set out to make it in any particular style.jaydog4 wrote: Fri Jul 28, 2023 11:42 pm Do you have any good recommendations on how to learn down tempo?
I think a lot of the music made by Boards of Canada fits into that style, and there are a couple of KVR artists on SoundCloud (polyslax and rekkerd) whose music I really like listening to.
I make (and listen to) a lot of ambient music, which is probably a good starting point for the basis of the downtempo style.

Nice, like the Morricone Western vibe at the beginning although like Frantz I think the shrill phrase - which I like - could come down 6dB and come in less often because it is so striking it doesnt need much repetition, would make it even more important by being rarer
Love the space between the different instrumental lines - the way they hang together - is a really nice piece

Did you listen to the original or the remix (second track in the original post)? I cut the number of repetitions in the remix in an effort to address some of the criticisms.VCA-089 wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 12:20 pm I liked the sounds and atmosphere of it. A very cool experiment...

It's an interesting sound, for sure. I think it sounds more like a ney flute. The wonders of Absynth

I compromised by reducing the number of repetitions, although I left the volume alone in the 2023 remix (second track in the original post).neverbefore wrote: Tue Aug 01, 2023 10:56 pm Nice, like the Morricone Western vibe at the beginning although like Frantz I think the shrill phrase - which I like - could come down 6dB and come in less often because it is so striking it doesnt need much repetition, would make it even more important by being rarer![]()
