Is there a clear winner? I don't think they are based on exactly the same model. Each has pros and cons. I prefer the reverb on the 201, but the Stardust has a chorus and some extra modulation options. Thoughts?

I tried it briefly and don't remember the Cherry version sounding very good. It is an RE-201 emulation, same as Arturia. But Cherry added in the chorus feature of the RE-301 to enhance it.

My favorite is Audio Thing's Outer Space. Arturia's version is good too. ValhallaDelay's tape mode is not an exact emulation but sounds amazing and is based on the RE-201 (no spring reverb doesn't look the same - different controls). The UADx vesion is pretty highly regarded (don't have it - demoed it - didn't buy it). There are lots of options.

I have the valhalla delay, which is really good.

Perhaps i should leave it at that

Go into the taps mode, set it up for 1 to 3 taps, then follow it up with some spring reverb and boom! Space echo! Money saved.

Why choose beween just these two Space Echo plug-ins? There are a few more available that you might like more. If they are not on sale right now, then wait.

Bought and sold Stardust. Demoed Tape-201 many times, never bought it.

The spring reverb should be set up parallel, although I like it before/after too. 8)

And not just any spring reverb like some developers do. :-| To me the ones from Outer Space, Space Delay and Galaxy sound most like the real Space Echo reverbs I heard on YT.

Shame valhalla doesn't do a spring verb to top it off. I think that's the key part of the sound, where Stardust fails as the reverb component sounds a bit rubbish. Outer Space is also really good, but will have to wait for a sale on that bad boy.

Sounds pretty good

How is the Softube one?

Hate it. The Softube Spring is not even on my "I'll use it sometimes..." list of Spring reverb plugins.

My most used Spring reverb plugins are (in order of most to least used):

1. Audio Thing Springs (lots of variety - includes a Space Echo)
2. Mixwave Benson Tall Bird - this is killer on guitars
3. Mixwave Harmonic Tremolo Reverb - this is way brighter than the Benson but still good
4. Strymon Big Sky - not quite the most amazing spring, but pretty good
5. Audio Thing Alborosie Dub Station - this just got discontinued

Other Springs I'd sometimes use (in no particular order):

6. Boz Digital ReCoil
7. PSP SpringBox
8. TR5 Sunset Sound Studio Reverb (has Spring mode)
9. Arturia Rev SPRING-636
10. U-he Twangstrom

Springs I own but don't use (still no particular order):

11. Black Rooster RO-SPR Spring Reverb
12. Eventide Spring
13. Aegeon Spirit Reverb (this was pretty good when there was less competition)
14. Softube Spring

...who's got a problem? Not me.

When I had a Koma Field Kit FX and a spring tank, I did an A/B test with Twangstrom and managed to dial it in so well I couldn't tell the difference. Sold the hardware.

...and of course, promptly lost track of the preset I'd saved. :hihi: But still, I use it for my spring reverb needs.

I use Stardust occasionally just for extreme settings -- overdriving the input, going crazy with modulation etc.

Which is the space echo preset? Spaceexpander? (or whatever it's called)?

There are two in Audio Thing Springs: RE-201 (Dark) and RE-201 (Bright). They got two different units with two very different sounds. So you can pick whichever sounds best to you.

I like your stuff. How did you write that?
