It's got a very similar vibe to some of the music on "From the Caves of the Iron Mountain" by Gorn, Levin, Marotta, and also to some of the Eno & Hassell music from the '80s. Wonderful syncretism.

Good work :)

thanks - I have never heard of the Gorn etc album and am listening now - good tip!
this piece started out as a sort of Hassell tribute really - the keyboardist knows a guitarist who worked with Hassell a lot and I think that is how he met Bilal, the Moroccan instrument maker and musician.
It is a very nice style to play in

perhaps this syncretism(new word for me)
involves being well orchestrated and mixed from a pop music standpoint,
like this one carries it's tune
ty!
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

Interesting journey...

Technically:
- Low end is too dense, and loud, it'd be better to loosen it a bit... SImultaneously making it more readable by disto of a couple of it's basic overtones...
- There's some other misbalance - even if to decrease the low end, probably there would be still not enough top-end and air

Musically:
- As ambient, it's done very well, good mood, and arrangement

In common I like it!

thankyou for the comments. Funnily enough there is a mix that addresses some of your issues but some of the early listeners I tried it on preferred the feel of the current mix as against a mix with less prominence in the low end.
re 'air' you are absolutlely right however that is deliberate. I am more and more concentrating on music for people (like me) with high frequency hearing loss. I have pieces that are much more limited in the upper bandwidth - is an interesting challenge

There are some ways to pump up the bass (it's perception) without boosting it in EQ

I'll just share some ideas what I would do with this bass, for it to sound massive but much more pleasant (without destructive sound design and altering the timbre):

- I'd clear the low end on many instruments, that have no bass function, by digital EQ with linear phase feature (like Fabfilter Pro-Q) - this would make the bass less messy and more clear

- I'd make sure there's no sub freq in side - I'd cleared the side on the whole mix by GMonoBass or again Fabfilter pro-Q, up to 150-300 Hz - this will leave the low end only in mono, make it more focused, less messy, and in less need to be boosted

- I'd used multiband saturator, like Fabfilter Saturn or Ozone Exciter, isolated the first one or two overtones/harmonics (so that other harmonics wouldnt be affected by the saturation), and applied heavy saturation - it would decrease the boominess of the low end and made it more readable by boosted disto-harmonics in the low-mid, so that the perception of the power of the bass would remain the same, timbre remained the same, but overall low end would become less messy

- there are also bass enhancers, that twist phase in the low end and make bass more powerful without boosting it's actual gain (probably some bass-enhancing vst from Waves, personally I use Disperser by kiloHearts)

okay, it was interesting puzzle to solve ))

thanks, some worthwhile suggestions. I will have a look at them tomorrow (is late here) Will be interersting for me to try them and see if I like the results. Particularly saturation of specific harmonics, I have not tried that before

There is a cool "drift" with how it flows as if there is nothing forced.
Its as if its on a journey with no set time for arrival.
I dig it....
